Of Gods and Kings

Decent enough biblical epic. Missing something though?

6/10

American Sniper

Excellent film, big fan of Eastwood as a director and Cooper was excellent as Kyle.

If anyone else liked it I would recommend generation kill.

Wanted to watch a couple of turn off the brain comedies for a Friday night so got Sex Tape and Hooligan Factory (had never even heard of this) off the Sky planner.

Both are utterly dreadful.

We watched it in school to learn about social inequalities in the US!

It's one of the most ridiculous films I've ever seen.

Watched it last night and thought it was ok. I can empathise with denzels character and the lengths a man will go to to protect his children as I wouldn't think twice if it was my son or daughter.

Jaws

My son is doing a GCSE in Moving Image and part of it is bringing people together with film so as a project he's got everyone in the family to name their favourite movie and then we all watch it together and he notes the feedback for his coursework, my turn first so it was this classic, still as good as the first time I saw it ( thought the rubber shark was awful then too :P ), so many good performances and characters, the iconic Quint character so brilliantly played by Robert Shaw must be one of the best in film ever. Thankfully the kids(15 and 11) liked it well enough ,loved the music. 10/10

Next on the list is the missus choice ..Breakfast at Tiffanys, not sure what a 15 year old boy will make of it but we'll see.

One of the TV channels is doing an "Anniversary" weekend and, Jaws is 40 so it was on last night. I love the film, and, allegedly Robert Shaw's USS Indianapolis speech was his own script

The Connection

Very good French gangster flick about the same heroin smuggling racket that inspired the '70s Hollywood effort The French Connection. This is slick, stylish and violent. If you like stuff like Goodfellas or Carlito's Way and you don't mind reading subtitles then you should enjoy this.

8/10

Action is not usually my kind of thing but went to see Mad Max: Fury Road today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Outstanding action scenes, stunts and effects, brilliant and interesting story, good bad guys and particularly enjoyed watching Theron lay the smackdown. Shouts to the guitarboy also.

Saw this yesterday. Yip, I'd give it 8/10 as well. Terrific film.

Spy

Normally I'm going to hate anything that has Miranda Hart in it and I didn't make much of the trailer, but this defied my low expectations and was a really silly, solid film. Worth a watch I'd say.

8/10.

San Andreas..... Hmmm 6/10.

Visually really good to look at and with Carla Gugino and Alexandra Daddarrio the totty was awesome, however some of the acting was cheesy as hell. The two English lads in particular made me cringe every time on screen.

Decent enough viewing,

Caught Fast And Furious 7 last night on the ferry.

Deeply ludicrous stuff with some laugh out loud dialogue, but pretty enjoyable stuff. Rock giving the Rock Bottom to The Stath almost had me cheering.

Black Coal, Thin Ice

Film noir (hee hee) about a Chinese cop who goes off the rails a bit when an arrest goes wrong. Worth it for the view of China around 1999 and 2005, the years in which the story is set, if nothing else.

7 / 10.

Entourage

Great stuff here. Critics seem to be a bit less enthusiastic, and you can kinda see why. The plot isn't very involving, and the way the TV show was doesn't really help with that. Fans of the show will get into the characters big time again though, and there's some great one liners and cracking jokes all the way through. Does what I want comedies to do. Just makes me laugh. And the characters as always are great, but special kudos to Haley Joel Osmont for his role as the spoilt rich kid son of a co-financier of Ari Gold's studio, which he takes on with gusto. If you're a fan of the show, you know how it'll go, and that's where it falls down, but it's a great ride which is bound to bring a smile to the face.

8/10

I'm glad to see someone else give Entourage a good review. One of my favourite tv shows of all time.

San Andreas 7/10

This held up a lot more than I expected. Some of the scene was cheesy but excellent. I enjoyed it throughout. Definitely worth a watch.

Spy - 9/10

Did not expect much at all but was laughing throughout. I still despise Miranda Hart but she didn't ruin this for me, she was ok. Even Jason Statham was hilarious throughout. Would highly recommend this film to anyone. The scene where she went on the motorcycle had me in tears laughing. Superb.

Tomorrowland 3/10

Avoid like the plague. Nonsense. The children will enjoy it though.
