Christophe
Seen Hateful 8 at a Vue also, was under the impression that the intermission was Tarantino requested as it's kind of mentioned by the narrator when it resumes "it's been fifteen minutes since..." Or words to that effect....Are other theatres not doing it? -
Mr. Brightside
The Vue cinema near Asda in Hamilton.I was gonna go there to see it, ended up at Barrbridge where there was sadly no interval.
BFTD
The Hateful Eight - yeah, I enjoyed that. Tarantino might be an annoying p***k who uses his characters as mouthpieces, but his films are always enjoyable, even when stretched to three hours and mainly kept in a cabin together. Hadn't been expecting it to be quite so comedic. Good ensemble piece. Additional thoughts: Anyone else think Tim Roth seemed to be channelling Christophe Waltz for most of the film? The subtle nods back to characters in Tarantino's earlier films were nice, unobtrusive and didn't seem particularly self-indulgent. Any doubts about allusions to John Carpenter's The Thing went out of the window when I noticed a cello theme from the soundtrack being used in the coffee scene - one that I don't think was used in the film itself, but on the North American DVD menu! Not the only one, but that made me laugh. Big black dingus

BFTD
Bachelorette - grim psychodrama about a group of young women who are forced to confront their inner self-loathing after an old friend that they all secretly hate and belittle announces her engagement. To make matters worse, each becomes involved with men who claim to like them for the personalities they've begun to reject. Wait, this was a comedy? Could've fooled me. This made for more horrific viewing than Cannibal Holocaust. Isla Fisher's tits are yummy, however

It sounds like a comedy only Hitler would enjoy.
deadasdillinger
Watched one of the worst films I've seen in a long, long time last night, Anomalisa. Nominated for best animation Oscar, written by Charlie Kaufman whose stuff I love, getting great reviews. Absolute drivel from start to finish. As boring as anything I've seen.

Ex Machina
Went to see The Big Short last night and I think it was the best film I've seen in a while. Loved the format of it with the breaking the fourth wall and cutscenes. Not a bad performance in sight from any of the actors and Bale showing why he's my favourite actor in his role as Dr. Berry. Surprised at his Oscar nod though as it didn't feel like he was really on screen for a huge amount of time. 10/10

welshbairn
Can anyone who's seen Hateful 8 say if there's any particularly gruesome violence or hardcore sex that might disturb elderly parents?
Ira Gaines
There's definitely pretty brutal violence.
DrewDon
Recently back from seeing The Big Short. I would happily recommend it. The ending is especially well done.
welshbairn
There's definitely pretty brutal violence. Cheers. I'm pretty well immune to Tarantino style violence, the opening killing in Casino Royale and the chair torture were far more shocking, basically a film for all the family, but I'm a bit wary of scenes like the Nazi basement in Pulp Fiction for my Mum and Dad, however funny it was.

I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of graphic anal rape, considering that it may almost be considered a spoiler, as you do spend some time wondering when and how the shit's going to hit the fan. If you think you might end up squirming uncomfortably next to your parents as a man is forced to fellate Samuel L. Jackson's big black dingus, however...well, this may not be the movie for you. There's also a bit of OTT gore, which can play out comedically at times.
Blootoon87
Aliens. I haven't watched it for a while and I think I under rated it. It's arguably better than Alien, although both films have totally different moods. I'll give it an 8.5/10. Get away from her you BITCH!
Ex Machina
That's why it's Supporting Actor he's up for. I know what he's up for, I'm not questioning the decision to nominate him. I'm just surprised as it didn't feel like he had much screen time really in comparison to say, Hardy.
Mr. Brightside
Seen The Big Short tonight. Superb film, I loved it probably the second best film I've seen in the last 12 months. The acting is superb, I thought Carell was excellent playing someone who actually has a conscience and feels pretty shitty about the money he has made off the back of what happened.
The Grass Is Greener.
Carell was the stand out for me as well, good seeing him in a serious role.
deadasdillinger
I actually really enjoyed that. Man, im surprised I didn't. On paper it was a winner. It just felt like a chore from start to finish. Painfully slow and went nowhere.
