Reporter on ITV News Live just made a massive balls up. He's clearly lost his notes

Earlier on I heard a report on the BBC World Service saying a policeman had taken a rape victim to the police station for line ups. I didn't think that was an appropriate turn of phrase if I'm being honest.

Well spill the fucking beans, bud.  Loach is a top bloke by anyone's estimation.

It was at a Workers' Memorial Day event in York. He was invited to speak - which, unsurprisingly, he did fluently and persuasively - about the continuing struggle to protect workers in an age where employers see them as production units. Spoke personally to a few of us afterwards, before having to rush off for his train. I had to control myself from gushing praise like a teenage girl - genuinely one of the people I most admire in the world. The world is a better place for having him in it, still producing honest, emotionally powerful work in his eighties. I only wish that successive governments would stop giving him material, so that he could retire.

I thoroughly agree that, "The world is a better place for having him".

On a whimsy..

Footballers are heroes to Ken Loach, whereas actors are part of his day job. He lives in Bath, and is involved with Bath City FC.

A few years ago, he came down the 20 miles from Bath to the local village film society near where I live. He spoke, and answered questions

before a showing of 'Looking For Eric'.

Really enjoyable. He also described, how, during the Thatcher years when he found it virtually impossible to get his work

shown, on TV or in cinemas, he took a job to direct a commercial for McDonalds, basically to put bread on the table.

Very much one of the good guys.
