My neighbour got some kind of bread of cat that they wanted to be an indoor cat. It had other.ideas.

First a catpen outside was built but it still legged it given the chance.

Then new six foot fencing att round garden but it was still legging it.

The fence now has a frame with chicken wire on it.

I'd lost a picture but I don't want Hedge cutter trying to scale the fence.

That's OK - I think I found it:

I don't know what the problem is with the moggy wanting to explore it's territory

There was a documentary about cats in a village on TV a few years ago and they put trackers on various cats. Not only did the cats range far and wide but they worked out different times to go out so they avoided unnecessary fighting over the same territory

I always thought our lazy wee bauchle of a cat never went far but one day I was with the old man and we looked down the street:

Dad "look at that awful, scruffy cat down there. I wonder who's it is"

Me "Ermm... That's our cat ..'

The owner doesn't want it stolen because it's a pedigree cat.

Are microchip activated cat flaps worth the extra or just an expensive gimic in folks experience?

Mine worked for about a week then stopped so I switched it off. I’ve only even caught 2 cats coming in it in the 7 or so years it’s been there.

First visit to this thread.. I've never had a cat and never will but I thought some folk might find this interesting...

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/cat-bite-extreme-unknown-infection-b2388675.html

"A 48-year-old UK man bitten by a stray cat developed “painful” hand swelling and “extensive” infection caused by a previously unknown bacterium, a new study has revealed.

The research, published recently in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases, describes the case of a 48-year-old obese man, who was admitted to the emergency department in 2020 with hand swelling, multiple puncture wounds and abrasions, about eight hours after sustaining bites from a feral cat."

Gloves on!

We have one, it’s never worked properly so it’s just switched off and working as a normal flap. Got 1 neighbourhood cat that has appeared in the house a couple of times, but it hasn’t caused any bother. I’d probably just buy a basic one.

Got a bit of a fright the other day. Came home from work and was putting the key in the door when i glanced along the parh to the side and saw the cat lying down on a pile of leaves . First thought was she'd been hit by a car, but turns out she was just having a nap.

Strange place to do it out in the open and in full view of passers by and the road, and she's usually on high alert keeping watch for other cats when she's outside.

Maybe it was a nice warm spot

I've seen other folk's cats kipping on our front doorstep because the stonework soaks up the sun and makes it warm

Our daft ginger tom used to sit on the bonnets of cars that had recently been driven to get the heat from the engine
