McCracken-Sign

Donnelly-Sign

Dodgson-Leave

Beck-No choice

Howley- Leave

Boateng- Sign

Mellon-Loan

Robinson-Sign

Bakayoko-Leave

Costelloe-Loan

Along with another CB, RWB, LWB and a Striker

It all depends where we finish in the league. Donnelly and Boateng more likely to come back if we are top 6. Calvin Ramsay needs to restore his career, Van Veen and Greg Stewart I reckon will also leave Killlie which could be possible signing if we finish top 6.

Dodgson did quite well there against Killie if you ask me, but we'll see if that sticks.

I saw this differently, think Killie targeted our right side as we are weak there and Dodgson didn't do nearly enough, just stood off his man and waited for Mulligan to turn up. Not really his fault as I understand he's more of a left sided defender. Was madness to let Kerr go and not have proper cover. When I say cover I can't say McGhee is a RB/RWB, absolutely a CH.

Gonna put my tin hat on, but I think McGhee has been excellent at RB this season. Him being able to tuck in across at CH and be a more defensive full back in general gives Beck more freedom down the other side.

Don't think we've got the quality to have 2 out and out attacking wing backs - don't think anyone does really outwith the truly elite sides - so enjoyed McGhee's performances this season.

There's huge difference between McGhee playing RWB in the 5, and RB in the 4. When he plays RWB his limitations going forward are really exposed, the ball tends to just bounce off him and get cycled back inside to the midfield, and eventually all our attacks end up going down the left through Beck and McCowan. In the 4 he doesn't need to get beyond the half-way line, so his weaknesses are not as evident, and he looks like a far more compact and efficient player when he's not asked or expected to contribute to attacks. I think Doc prefers him over legit FB types because, as you say, he can tuck in and defend like a proper CB, and he's also another presence in the air at set-pieces. This is why I think TD sticks with him over more naturally gifted players even when we are playing the 5. I don't have a problem with it, because most teams concentrate their attacks down one side anyway, it would just be nice to have an option to bring on to help add some balance if we are chasing a goal and the opponent is shifting over to their right to counter Beck and McCowan.

I think it's always valuable to have a player in the squad who can play 3-4 positions comfortably, even if he isn't the best in the squad at any particular one. Of all the players I've seen at Dens over the past 5-10 years, there have been plenty of times where I thought they've all been rank-rotten for long spells or just weren't up to it and needed moved on, but McGhee is not one of them and I can't recall a single instance of thinking that he's stunk the place out for more than one or two games on the trot. I see no reason at all to be thinking about binning him when he provides perfectly adequate play at CH, FB, WB, and can even hold his own as a DM and a Box-to-Box type.

Ideally we'd replace him with a full time specialist RWB/RB, but that's luxury thinking because we're going to have an even bigger hole on the left side once Beck returns south. Can't see us getting another player of his quality in permanently.

Hope Scotland eventually give oppourtunity to other players. McCowan, Danny Armstrong and Spittal get a chance. Ryan Jack injured, Stu Armstrong average and Jacob Brown just fills the numbers.

McCowan is having a great season by Dundee standards , but let’s not go all United on it , agree Armstrong has been a handful as well , but none of the above are a good enough standard for a Scotland cap , except in the Bertie Voults era

Think Luke Graham gets a chance with you next season?

He's been taken on trial by a few English sides with money to squander. If he stays with us, I'd imagine we'll be aiming to put him out on loan to a Championship side but Docherty (and Bowyer before him) have used him and Jack Wilkie in our pre-season friendlies and our League Cup games so I'm sure he'll be looked at.

I know these charts aren't many people's cup of tea, but you should probably start a thread for the premiership players at all clubs.

Most valuable/worst team using all league players. That i'd be interested to see.

Graham looks ready for a proper run out at the very least, definitely should be in contention at the start of next season. Been very impressed with him on loan at Montrose, and has also regularly captained our reserve side this season. He and Finlay Allan are probably my two most anticipated players yet to break through.

I know that he is captain but should Shaughnessy deserve a contract next season? I don't think he is much better than Ashcroft and Lamie (who I wouldn't have kept either). He isn't very strong, shaky on the ball, slow and gets turned inside out. Not sure how vocal he is either. I would give Luke Graham a chance. I agree that Graham has been impressive and has all the attributes and reminds me of Jack Hendry. Docherty seems to rely on Shaughnessy as he is captain and starts every game but there is other leaders like Carson, McCowan and McGhee.

Shaughnessy was one of our best players up until January. He's had a tough wee while but Shaughnessy absolutely is part of our side next season.
