Can someone who knows the rules more fully explain why that try was disallowed

IMO the ref was in no position to disallow it. He said the ball was lost forward, but he was well behind it. Normally they would let it run then go to the TMO to check it.

Wales given offside for once - they've been off almost all the time - and don't start me about lying on the ball preventing release . . .

That's been the basis of Welsh rugby since they first started playing the game.

Easy to blame the referee after that - incorrectly disallowed try, four clear binning offences by the Welsh ignored, not restarting the game when he was clearly supposed to - but ultimately when you miss that many try-scoring opportunities you've only got yourself to blame.

True, but the chances of getting something from the game in the closing stages would have been greatly improved if the referee had did his job properly, especially with what were obvious yellow cards. FFS they were so blatant even Jonathan Davies admitted the boy who committed the high tackle should have gone.
