I read something about Crufts and the pedigree breeding health issues that came with snooty dog owners and the ridgebacks were having dreadful health issues. Cancers etc.Basically if it's not for low life chavs breeding 20 staffies in a 2 bedroom house then it's snooty b*****ds inbreeding dogs so they can look nice and win Crufts even if they only live to 6 years old! One of my brothers was doing some irrigation work on one of the sugar plantations in Jamaica some years ago. The parent company transferred a South African guy there. It's even trickier when you get an Irish dog (like ours) who we suspect to have been trained with live prey. It doesn't help that he's not the brightest. It took 3 years, but he can now safely be let out without his muzzle. Aye there's a good few breeds with differing health problems due to interbreeding but I know the Ridgeback lives to about 10-12 years as I was considering getting one a few years ago and did a bit of research on them. Cracking looking dog but I wouldn't trust having a powerful dog about with kids around.
