Both Ceuta and Melilla were 'Spanish' cities even before some parts of mainland Spain were liberated from the Moors. They send MP's to the Spanish parliament.

The UN doesn't consider them colonies unlike Gibraltar.

It's like the way France treats its overseas possessions, like La Réunion and Guadeloupe as integral parts of France. Spain treats Ceuta and Melilla as actual parts of its territory. The way the UK treats Gibraltar, Falkland Islands etc (as British Overseas Territories) is as separate areas under the control of, but not part of the UK. It's a subtle difference, but enough for the UN to be happy about decolonisation.

So instead of putting money into healthcare, eradicating poverty, cutting police funding, creating jobs, investing in renewable energy or education this country celebrates in the past two weeks spending around £1billion on doing up Buck palace and changing the colour of our fucking passports? No fucking wonder we've not been found by other sentient life in the universe they probably watched us from afar and thought we were too dangerous.

Brexiters [emoji38]

See when you sit back and think of it all happening its fucking mental, its utterly utterly bewildering that people have voted for something that will leave all of us poorer, make travelling around Europe harder, make moving abroad to work harder, make owning a business more expensive, make attracting workers even more difficult and give the tories free reign to destroy workers rights, the human rights act and all for what? a blue passport. If anyone genuinely thinks brexit will work out for the betterment of the UK population they are without a shadow of a doubt stupid.

When you consider how utterly gormless and unthinking your typical Brexit enthusiast is, it becomes slightly less bewildering that we have ended up in this dreadful position.

I really don't want to think that such a large percentage of the UK are xenophobic and racist, but the old Arthur Conan Doyle line about eliminating the impossible seems relevant here.

People simply couldn't believe it would be good for trade; they simply couldn't be so naive to think it would benefit national security; they simply couldn't think that it would lead to improved services.

The little Englander mentality must be wider and deeper than most of us thought possible or we're willing to believe.

Less than a week into this shit and major newspapers are openly debating about a possible war with an EU country.

But whats mental about it is that they act all surprised when stuff goes against their interests as if its someone else's fault? I think there was a women who went on question time who gave it big licks about believing the tories would look after her etc and being upset at some reforms that were essentially at the heart of the tory ideology. It absolutely astounds me just how stupid people in this country can be. We now have Michael Howard wanting us to go to war with Spain over Gibraltar. FFS!

Most Tory voters don't really give a solitary shit about the untold damage that a Conservative government will reap on other individuals and vulnerable communities; it is, of course, an entirely different story if they specifically are adversely affected - even if it was an entirely predictable and foreseeable outcome.

Funny thing is, many of those same voters will then unquestioningly swallow whole the very same politicians telling them that it is all the nasty immigrants' fault. Well, it's not really very funny at all.
