Ivo den Bieman
(don't forget this was the pre-Glaxo, pre-oil basin, post-fishing Montrose of the 1920s and 1930s. The old road bridge across the River South Esk that's depicted in both was actually demolished in 1926, to make way for the concrete bridge which was demolished in 2005). So that's a giveaway that it's an imaginary view. It's taken from near the old Craig primary school in the hills above Ferryden- when you go and look for yourself Montrose is much wider and much less concentrated.

She was quite posh and had a nice arse. Yes, wid. No, I don't have pics so I'll have to GTF. A corker indeed and is actually a very common image- it hung in several pubs that I worked in in London, in the 90s. Not as good as Woman on a Safety Tricycle by the same painter. From memory, both these images were painted in Helensburgh.

Newbornbairn
Rockwell for me captured an America that maybe didn't always exist in reality but did in my head. When I visited upstate NY some years ago I found myself in a small place called Alplaus in the middle of winter. White picket fences, flags, neighbours who all knew each other and helped each other out - it was Rockwell writ large and I felt I'd landed in the place of MAD comic, Happy Days and all that.

Earlier in the thread, I described his home in Arlington, Massachusetts which is a wee museum and shop. Here's another one I have on my wall.
Newbornbairn
My wife visited the museum and felt it was far more shop than museum. She was pretty disappointed
