That has spin off benefits for all our clubs. There hasn't been any proposal made as yet. If something was proposed that benefitted Scottish football overall then it would be considered. However if the idea of Old Firm colts is seen as a key factor in a grand plan I think most folks would struggle to accept it will actually produce the desired benefits plus it would also be seen as damaging to many other clubs - albeit there is no proposal to consider at the moment. So cant see how this will ever fly - maybe just being floated to see if there is any traction.

This Old Firm Colt thing (what a shit name!) isn't really new didn't Jock Stein try to get Celtic's reserve side in the 2nd Division after Third Lanark went defunct and there was a team idle every Saturday. His side didn't get in but quite a few of them still managed to make it in the game - guys like Kenny Dalglish, Lou Macari, Danny McGrain etc who funny enough went to play for Celtic in World Cup finals. haufdaft
Serious question. Who have produced more Scottish internationalists in the last 20 years, Celtic and Rangers colts or teams from the championship downwards?Perhaps the focus should be on improving the standard of the lower leagues rather than dragging us all down to colt level.Or is it not really about Scottish football's improvement but that of the old firm?
A Believer
I agree with a lot of what you say. My point is that any potential negatives that could occur with the Colts could be lessened as part of an overall restructure of the Lowland League down. Take the existing Junior Pyramid as a guide and work the SofS and EofS into that. Same with the Highland League and North Juniors Within that structure there is definite space for 5-6 Colt teams to play without negatively impacting the league. Cracking suggestion; sprinkling them throughout the pyramid is more sensible that targeting one league, which would be unfair. As was explored and discussed in BBC's excellent 'Scotland Game' (shown 15 September), one of the flaws of the Development League system is that the jump from u-20's to 1st team is too much of a physical and 'ring-craft' leap for too many promising youngsters. Many don't make the transition quickly enough.I believe the idea, and why many u-20's have development loans to senior clubs, is to try and give that essential exposure. As Maurice Malpas quite candidly said, clubs need to establish the players with the skill, attitude and physicality to step up, before the end of their development tenure; those that can't will leave.A higher percentage of more proven young players should stay the course, hopefully continue to develop and improve the success rate from grass-roots.Not just Old Firm though, perhaps initially top 10 from the Dev League at the end of the season; or applying some form of sensible agreed criteria.

Bluesetter
Better letting Heart and Hibs colts in so they can develop there young players for the O.F. as they usually sign their best players .
Officer Barbrady
For the overwhelming percentage of utter weapons among the OF support (singular, btw), having one lone voice in TadgerTony ought to be seen as a result. No surprise that the Cowden Family are waiting to hear what the price is before committal, either. I'll start by saying that neither Cockwomble, nor Thtewart, would get the steam off my pish, and have damaged the game beyond all imminent rescue chasing a false god, which many clubs over the last 5-6 years have begun to suss out. It's no coincidence that five of those (Hibs, Hearts, Dundee Utd, Motherwell and Dunfermline) have gone through the mire, but some of them appear to have their shit in order now. That said, the two fuds in the suits have delivered everything you (the Scottish supporter) have asked for; Rangers in the Third, Strachan as manager, summer football (of sorts), groups in League Cup, playoffs all through the pyramid pushed through BY THEM, and secured sponsorship for all leagues and cups for the first time since about 2004. If you're looking for some contrition from either bawbag, in lieu of an admission that they're incapable, deluded and fucking dangerous men, you've kind of already sold it away. But enough about they two. For fans of the smallest clubs, if they're meant to be an easy target, well they're proving otherwise. Good, get the fuckers telt. However, it can't be disregarded that we're watching undoubtedly the lowest standard of professional football in the top two tiers for some time, let alone the bottom two. Its not Montrose, Clyde or Annan's fault that Timothy, Kinning Park and Scotland are all shite. But its not Celtic or Rangers' fault that those clubs are shite, either. So, instead of waiting YET AGAIN on the postman delivering YET ANOTHER red-letter by proxy of the OF about ANOTHER fucking restructure, why not just resign from the league in protest? But, this time, don't shite it like the Rebel Ten did in 2002. That'll spook the c***s.

sjc
Here's an idea for improving our youngsters. Why not channel the coaching badges more towards developing technical skills and then sending every PE Teacher in the Country on the course? Just a start perhaps?

surely not!
Here's an idea for improving our youngsters. Why not channel the coaching badges more towards developing technical skills and then sending every PE Teacher in the Country on the course? Just a start perhaps? On the surface this looks a great idea, but realistically football is one of a wide number of sports in PE lessons across the country and the actual time spent by kids on football in PE can often be less than 6 hours a year.

Very true. Perhaps with the increase in obesity we should be looking to increase the amount of PE classes for Secondary school students? Not saying Japan has all the answers but a typical high school day goes from 8am to 6pm here.......there's about 3 hours a day extra!
