John Lambies Doos
The King has basically just said exactly what you'd expect a medieval relic to say. Vote was illegal, organisers put themselves outside the law. SPAIN will recover from this. Catalan society is fractured. Catalonia enjoys democracy and human rights within Spain (lol) I saw this. Must have been put out regarding the word 'republic' on ballot paper. Leach

Depends as this is not going to go away. Spain will use a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Political prisoners, riot police, injured and possible deaths? Something will have to give eventually
Ira Gaines
It'll need to reach that latter point for an outcry. Until then, I suspect pretty much everyone is going to sit on their hands.

We'll see how that goes....

Unfortunately, at this point it all resembles platitudes towards Madrid.

paul-r-cfc
Incredibile footage of the Spanish police penned into their hotel out of their stormtrooper uniforms. Chanting 'viva espana' like a bunch of football hooligans. Maybe now they'll get their heads kicked in now that some of their faces are known.....

Ira Gaines
Oh okay. That makes it all fine then. I think I'd much rather the Catalonians continued down their current path than act like the dickheads.
DeeTillEhDeh
Even simple maths will tell you that the Spanish government probably increased Yes's share of the vote even on a 42.3% turnout. If the turnout was 80% and not a single one of those extra votes went to Yes then Yes would still have 47.7% of the vote. When you realise that around 70,000 votes are still to be counted and another 750,000 missing in boxes seized by the Guardia Civil then this truly was a slap in the face for Rajoy's tactics. If this is the case - that turnout was 57.4% then it may be the case that Yes would have a clear majority on a turnout of 80%.

Can never have a majority based on 80% of a 57% turnout.
