...but it wasn't because the Enlightenment hadn't happened yet, which means that there is still a state religion and pre-democratic monarchy cult at the core of it all rather than a separation of Church and State and as much as people like to pretend that the UK is a modern secular state in reality it isn't because its formation predated the emergence from the despotism of absolute monarchy of the 19th century nation state that tended to emerge elsewhere at a signifcantly later date based on the ideals of the French and American revolutions. Flowing from that Irish Roman Catholic society and its west of Scotland branch plant didn't follow the conventional historical development experienced elsewhere in RC countries in western Europe of an anti-clerical liberal and then a socialist strand within the new secular nation state challenging and breaking the dominance of the church hierarchy so Cardinal Winning was still viewed as speaking on behalf of an entire community in relatively recent times, and Scotland retained separate national institutions in 1707 to accomodate its Presbyterianism and didn't become the equivalent of a German lander or Italian province leading to the emergence of a strong independence movement after 300 years of Union despite not having a significant language issue to fuel it, so there  is a lot more going on than just what the Orange Order gets up to that is decidedly odd when viewed from outside.

only two sentences. impressive.

All monarchy and religion is shite. There is no right side when it comes to arguments between the.

People do have a right to be arseholes if it causes no immediate harm though.

Was it not BigotBob who was boasting about some loyalist flute band, playing at his mates wedding. What a pathetically tragic individual.

Boastful? What was boastful or bigoted about it!? A top notch melody band, tunefully tight and very smartly turned out. Not sure a pure blood and thunder outfit would have suited such an auspicious occasion for the happy couple, right enough.
There was nothing ‘boastful’ about mentioning it whatsoever though.
If you don’t enjoy the flute bands fine, but thousands do and the ‘scene’ continues to flourish. You can’t possibly know the set they played either. Usual blind ignorance spouted from the P&B band wagon, try thinking for yourself for a wee change.
Would you have said it was boastful to comment that a pipe band had entertained the guests? Would that also make for a pathetically tragic individual.
Hmm... I guessing you would probably go with what everyone else thought.

I don't actually know much about the Orange Order but from these photos all the members look old, overweight, have a wide range of health problems and terrible skin tone.
They need a few younger healthy olive skinned people to make them look more human and less like creepy, racist cult members.

You guys should start there.

Hopefully this article has it right and the utter scum collapse.

Tam Devine does have a point,  In the article he said:

"The mainstream Protestant churches don’t want anything to do with it and mainstream Scottish opinion, especially during the marching season, treats the organisation with hostility and contempt.”

Then again I have nothing but contempt for, 'mainstream Scottish opinion'.  We know that at least 45% of them are utter tossers.

Been hearing the "dying out" line from middle class Scotland for the last 40 years. Blah blah blah from Tom Devine.

Those pesky middle classes! Everyone knows it's only true working class, salt of the earth folk who are bitter wee bigots
