A lot of those staff will be young eastern Europeans with nowhere to go. And even if they had somewhere to go they couldn't go there because 1/ there are no flights and 2/ borders are being closed right, left and centre.

My wife is an Early Years Officer and my job, in the eyes of the Govt, is classed as critical/keyworker thingy. She’s been told to come into work on Monday and Tuesday (as have the rest of the EYO’s at her school - for reasons they don’t know why). We have a kid and naturally a lot of the EYO’s have kids as well. Sending them to their elderly grandparents is obviously a no no. Should be interesting how this pans out - my guess is it’ll be a ‘bring your kids to work day’. Would your employer be up for that?

Can see the little darlings being filled with joy at that prospect. Only for a couple of days mind you. peasy23
The only explanation I heard was that they had a great deal of elderly folk, a lot of people still living with their parents, and, in somewhat clumsy sounding terms, a far more touchy-feely, kissy on the cheek type of society. A lot more physical contact which passed it on. How much of that is true, fecked if I know. My aunt is Italian and has family near Naples, it's certainly true about people still living with parents, and in some cases 3 generations will be living together. Even bigger problems there than there is in the UK for young people trying to get in to the housing market.

Then there's Jared Leto being Jared Leto who's self isolation from the world (nothing to do with COVID-19) and then reconnecting and finding out about this thing called reality was like something out of Zoolander. JARED LETO (@JaredLeto) Wow. 12 days ago I began a silent meditation in the desert. We were totally isolated. No phone, no communication etc. We had no idea what was happening outside the facility. I'm not putting up it here because like me you will suddenly have the urge to stab yourself in the ears with a sharp object. If you want to suffer it BE WARNED - once its seen and heard it can't be unseen or unheard. Hopefully people (including the morons) will soon appreciate how inconsequential all of these characters really are.

I was told that staff still had to go in to work as there are many families that can't arrange child care so schools will become a creche. There is also the low income families that rely on their kids going to school to be fed, dinners will be made available for this as well.

That way you can cram in even more vaccous shite. I speak with the voice of experience. Here's a sad fact. I have a machine capable of recording 8 simultaneous transmissions. Never used fully except for testing purposes I hasten to add. On get up two hours early and ‘live pause’ the TV. It’s a bit tricky getting used to the timings but you’ll never watch an advert again. It also restricts you to one channel only. Other than that it works well.

All my jokes about my folks not getting how serious this is are a reaction to my ever increasing sense of dread. I look at the curve of cases in the UK and the curve of cases in Italy and my stomach gets butterflies at what 2 weeks from now is going to look like. It doesn't need to be like that. If people take "try to avoid pubs" at face value, rather than as "go to the pub all you like", then there won't be a need for 'draconian' rules to be set in. As it is, these idiots are going to have to be saved from, if not themselves, infecting other people. That said, Italy's numbers are just horrendous, and I'd love to know what went wrong there.
