Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

So wait....WHAT?

The new variant doesn't appear to kill more people that it hospitalises. The mortality rate of those in hospital are the same.

But it kills 30% more people that it infects.

But we've only looked at a few cases so we don't know for certain yet.

I mean I know the fucking answer but why even put that info out there?!

That and "Coronavirus Good News" are the only accounts I pay any real attention to.

I've said before but if my only source of news came from the mainstream media I'd have topped myself months ago.

Are these two accounts verified as being good sources run by people who know what they're talking about? It's important that just because the media are scaremongering people don't fall into the trap of believing anyone who says things to the contrary - that's what made "Professor" Karl Sikora prominent for a wee while.

The £500 for isolating seems like a good idea but will be hard to execute.
Maybe better to give the money to a local team who can distribute medical stuff, food and help with bills or talk to employers?

Or sort out sick pay whereby people dont feel the need to lie about having symptoms.

Whitty and Vallance definitely don't seem to believe the change is really a significant one.

Of course it'll now fuel the media hysteria just nice enough.

'There's no evidence.....there's no real evidence.....we don't know for certain.....these are preliminary'

Both seem very keen to distance themselves from sensationalism but appear to be having to go with it to toe the party line of 'obey, obey, obey'.

By all means tell the public if the virus is becoming more deadly but can they at least wait until they have the actual evidence to prove it, rather than this anecdotal bullshit

It's not just that it will scare people for potentially no reason, foreign governments will react to this as well. Expect those lorry queues to return as the French decide to close the border to risk assess the situation again.

When he gave the example at 10% I thought he was going to say up to 50% or above.
It could maybe possibly go up 3%.
What's the point in announcing that. Its scare tactics.

Probably so the public don’t demand a return to the tiers, they might say “we were at Tier x in October when our cases and hospital capacity was the same as now so put us back”. Now the government cwn say ah but this is 30% more deadly
But todd is right this will backfire massively on these clowns because they can’t think of anything more than the immediate consequences. Side effects don’t cross their mind

It's right handy for some that clear reductions in infection rates have timed exactly with an new and more deadly variant. Wonder what it will be when we can all see hospital numbers going down....

Perhaps Random Guys covid that gives you aids will get the public airing none of us expected.

They seem to be promoting aspects which are positive - e.g the vaccines still work, vaccination numbers are on the increase and highlights stories and opinion pieces which don’t get hyped up.

The fact checker especially was really useful in debunking the likes of the half baked dramatic story coming out of Israel earlier this week.

One of the worst things people can do is to follow too many scientists on there and get dragged into the minutae of the complexities of vaccines and immune systems desperately looking for signs of hope - I’ve done this before and it does absolutely nothing for your mental health.

Just to wind everyone up.... Devi now saying by this time next year to be back to our normal daily lives!

Really had to post this on here to stop me exploding in some kind of twitter rage.

So we have a professor of virology saying that we need to keep the lockdown in place.
Can we have an QAnon, anti-covid bam saying it's all fake to balance it out?

It’s because they need to do more research and evidence-gathering, the studies take time.

The problem is whilst this happens, a potentially more deadly variant is spreading so they are warning us and letting us know so we understand why the restrictions remain so tight.
