Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this has been posted already but Dr Hugh Pennington giving evidence to the Scottish Parliament health committee said he wouldn't put money on a vaccine being found but that we can supress the virus through social distancing and aggressive testing.  Interesting that he emphasised the differences between this virus and flu/influenza, that's a theme that's come up already in terms of how the UK governments prepared for the virus.

Not a fan of aggressive testing. I prefer a gentle swab.

That's Johnson had another bairn. A couple more weeks off, pretty convenient for him.

For anyone who believes in bad omens, Emperor Hirohito was also born on this date.

(and me, but that's of significantly lesser importance. Birthday ruined though).

I do find it strange that often the very same people keen to point out that this is not a flu, are the same ones who then shout loudest about second and third waves coming "this winter" and "next spring" based on, usually, the Spanish Flu outbreak.

It either is like a flu, or it isn't. Can't be both.

I think the main worry is Covid coming back simultaneously with new flu epidemic. BTW it can be like flu in some respects and different in others, nothing illogical about that.

Not seen anyone basing a second wave on flu, more that unless the virus is wiped out and contained with testing, tracing and isolating there will be a second wave because its still a very contagious virus and hasn't been eradicated. 🤷‍♂️

That's how viruses work. If that's like the flu, then, well, that's like the flu.

Classic Boomer Bingo at Tesco this morning.

Old boy and his wife cut in front of me in the queue, then said "sorry son, you squeeze past". When I pointed out I had no intention of 'squeezing' past he got all uppity and said I was making a fuss about nothing. I told him just to go ahead as I wasn't interested in arguing. Ran into him again in the shop a few aisles later and him and his wife are both standing in the middle of the aisle looking at the shelves. He saw me wait and said "you'll be waiting a while, I'll be here for a good few minutes". I asked him politely to stand to the side with his wife so I could get past and he started shouting at me and walking closer, saying "I'll fucking come close to you". His wife ushered him away saying "leave it, he's just an arsehole".

Some absolute weapons.

More context is needed here tbf. If you are in a queue then he's a dick for queue jumping.

But if you are genuinely scared to simply be too close to someone for a few seconds to walk past him to get something, he's got a point about making a fuss over nothing.

You won't spontaneously combust and catch covid-19 because someone is within 2m of you for a minimal time.

Unless he coughs. Not spontaneously combust obviously.

If he coughs then there's no guarantee 2m is even enough.

Getting annoyed about having to walk within 2m of someone to pick up something that other people have already touched / potentially coughed on anyway etc is wild behaviour.

My exact words were "I don't want to squeeze past you". That's it. That's when he started getting shirty. I'd no intention of arguing so said to him "just you go ahead". The queues at Tesco are made from metal barriers. I was walking up the queue and he pulled two barriers apart and squeeze through to get ahead of me. Then he started making an issue again inside the store.

I find coughing loudly normally results in a ‘parting like the Red Sea’ in front of me in the shops these days. [emoji6]

Why does it take two of them to do the shopping. Take it the single shopper only policy has fallen by the wayside.
