Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

I got a text at work yesterday saying I’ve been in close contact with someone who has tested positive and that I have to self isolate until next Wednesday. Got a phone call a couple of hours later and the lady explained in more details of the self isolation. Very quick and efficient and also very calm and friendly, as I can imagine a lot of people would have been freaking out on the phone to her after receiving the text.
All fine, she did say though that she would email me the outlines of what I’m meant to do, however I haven’t received that email yet. I’m thinking maybe she had written my email address down wrong.
Anyone else been through the above? Did the email take long to land after the call? This was about 6 o’clock last night.
I feel absolutely fine, FWIW. No symptoms or anything but will of course adhere to the advice given.
Quick get to your nearest school, you'll be safe there as the virus doesn't spread around schools.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that health officials had found evidence of coronavirus spreading in two high schools in Glasgow.

So the article says there isn't transmission in Tayside yet. But evidence across Scotland of transmission in schools.

"Little evidence"

So there is some evidence

Schools do not play a major role in spreading the coronavirus, according to the results of a German study released on Monday....

So they play a minor role?

The above are all quotes from the articles you shared, no one has claimed that there is some kind of special protection in schools to prevent viral transmission...

Apologies for this source. Here is Scotland's leading paper's Pulitzer Prize entry this year.

I'm a crowded field this is by some distance the worse thing I have ever read.

The fact I want to high 5 the spokesperson for Spoons says a lot.

It amounts to "We decided to take the pish out of pressurised people in a job they'd probably rather not be doing. Then publish, to allow an internal investigation that will get the poor b*****ds on duty, on their zero hours contract sacked."

The article pretty squarely puts the blame at the door of the staff, when all the blame lies with the owners and managers. Tbh it's what I would expect from the Record and their attempts at investigative journalism

Still though. It's vital in  a democracy for a thriving fifth estate #buyapaper

The Lisa Simpson one is particularly harsh. It's a perfectly cromulent name.

The morning meeting at 'Spoons.

"Cūnto, you're on the door and if I see a queue your feet won't touch the fucking floor."

I think it's more the point that there is no evidence available that demonstrates that schools are the main driver of the increase in infections.

In my own school it has been something the opposite - classes are pretty much normal attendance (apart from the usual absentees and the small number of Covid refusers). There has also been little or no staff absences. Speaking to colleagues in other Dundee schools it seems to be the same picture.

I can't say what is happening in other LAs - maybe someone else can enlighten us?

Although it may not be the main driver what schools opening has allowed is more parents to return to the workplace - businesses reopening - a general increase in social interaction.

There are plenty will to blame one factor for the growth in infections - it is much more complex than that.

Playing the blame game, be it with schools, young people or students, helps no-one.
