Clear offside as Hatate touching the ball dictates where the ball ends up whether he means it or not. Since when has intent to play the ball mattered when someone has actually connected with it while in an offside position? I would argue strongly Hatate did impede/challenge Findlay in playing the ball, if Hatate wasn’t there then he’s got enough time/space to control it then pass/hoof it to f**k. Even if Hatate is trying to “get out of the way” as the idiots on Sportscene put it, Hatate has still forced Findlay into the playing the ball. Having a player behind you in an offside position isn't enough, that player would have to actually get directly involved in play, for example challenging for the ball or attempting to play the ball (see the Aberdeen disallowed goal earlier). I think that is a terrible rule, personally, but it is the rule. As soon as Findlay deliberately plays the ball, the offside is "reset", so the fact it then comes off Hatate doesn't matter, it's basically saying that Findlay now has control and it is a different passage of play. I know from listening to the Terrace that you used to be a ref, therefore probably have a better understanding of the rules than myself and most on here. I honestly thought that Hatate touched the ball before Findlay attempted to clear but I must be wrong.
