Coal Pension Properties, which manages investments for former coal workers’ pension schemes, could look to sell the Elder Street site for housing. The local authority’s tenancy of the transport hub is due to expire in 2027. No replacement site has been identified, but the council’s transport spokesperson admitted the facility could be “lost”. Councillor Scott Arthur the authority was “considering his options”. He said he was “disappointed that such a modern and well used piece of Edinburgh’s substitutable transport infrastructure may be lost”. It is understood Ingliston Park and Ride could be used as a temporary measure if the station were to close, though councillors would prefer a site closer to the city centre. The 18-stance station originally opened in 1957, but closed in 2000 as part of a £50m redevelopment project which also included the Harvey Nichols department store. A row over the fees for operators to use the station briefly threatened its reopening, with plans drawn up to move it to the nearby Waverley Railway Station in order to connect buses with train services. However it became operational again in February 2003 – four months after its initially scheduled completion date. Seems weird not to just build the flats over the top of the bus station, effectively making the busses underground, like you would imagine it will be semi high-rise anyway.

Used to be kinda like that in the 1980s, when there were a few office buildings that went over the station. Cant really see in this pic, but the exit to St Andrew Sq was just to the right of the Travellers Tryst pub. This is what it was like inside at one point, looking toward the old St James Centre.

Mark Connolly
Since the launch of the super duper new shiny trains on the Glasgow underground, it seems there is a fault on at least one of the lines every three or four days on average. This month, however, they have managed 9 suspensions of one or both circles so far

Mark Connolly
Subway update: the rush hour service, which has been every 6 minutes for the last few months, is now every 8 minutes. It was every 2-3 minutes before the “upgrades”. There have also been a further 4 outages in the last 5 days. It really must take some effort to make a service which has been fairly reliable in its current form (for the last 50 years) almost completely fucking useless by modernising it

ICTChris
8,000 capacity Edinburgh venue approved. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cglle38ldm5o Good decision. Seems mad that Edinburgh doesn't have a venue like this already and the location seems to work pretty well - convenient for the motorway, the tramline and the airport.

Many of the people complaining about Edinburgh's transport seem to be from the neighbouring councils areas who feel they should be able to drive uninterrupted into the centre at 50 mph and park next to the Scott Monument for nothing
