Small amount though it was, they were still able to use it as a final down payment on a liver transplant. Now they are on the mend, I definitely feel that I did the right thing.

Quietly pocketed it, waited a week to see if anyone tried claiming it, then spent it, probably on what that was originally paying for in the first place. Correct. If I found a substantial amount I'd keep it for a month and if a drug dealer/lonely pensioner contacts me directly they can have it back.
GiGi
Few weeks ago I was standing next to an old guy at the bar. Was a £5 note on the deck between us, checked my pockets and decided it wasn't mine, picked it up and handed it to the guy since it might have been his. He wasn't sure either so he just bought me a pint with it. Wholesome exchange.

Hedgecutter
Found a wallet containing just over £500 in cash inside it around Aberdeen Uni campus a few years ago, along with the Polish guy's driver's licence, other cards etc inside, making it nice and easy for somebody to identify him. I handed it into the police station, who then took my details and phoned me back a week later asking me to come back to collect a £200 'thank you' that the guy had left behind. Think I gave half of that to some local children's charity seeing as I wasn't expecting anything at all. Basic life rule: treat others like you'd want to be treated yourself.

Years ago now my auntie from a posh area in England told me how my wee cousin about 8 at the time found a big bag full of weed in the bushes near their school and he just walked half a mile down the road to hand it in to the police station. I was thoroughly ashamed.

He walked away in disgust leaving a hundred quids worth of chips at the table. Me and another couple of boys all spotted it and realised we’d all spotted it as we looked up at the same time checking to see if anyone else had spotted it. Spider-Man gif esque stuff. 3 of us ended up at the bar and drunk it.

Jambomo
I found a wallet a few years back that had about £150 in it but no obvious id to send it back to the owner. Handed it into the police station. If it’s something high value or they can be traced then I’d hand it in. I did once find £10 lying on the street and kept it since nobody could ever work out who owned it even if I did hand it in.
