Names you don't like.

Well strike me down. It is still a truly awful name.

With that I concur.

Although unconnected etymologically, Chad (as in the country) means lake. So Lake Chad is Lake Lake, and there's barely even a lake there anymore.

I just thought it was a cheesey American name that had been made up about 20 years ago. A bit like Brett or Brad.

Out of the kids my children are friends with I don’t hear many daft names - I think the exotic names were a thing 10-  20 years ago and we’ve gone back to more traditional names.

Thankfully, Papa is likely too dead to have seen this.

😂 Reminded me of an unlikely meeting of Jimmy Nichol and Jean Pierre Papin (which happened about 20 years ago) I can't remember why they were together at the same function, but Tom Shields of The Herald recreated their intro to each other. JP: Nichol? JN: Papin?.

Simple, but I've been chuckling at that for years. Cheers for the reminder.

And aye, nobody under 35 is coming close to getting that 😂.

Any full version of a name that's usually shortened, but only if it's insisted on by the owner.

"Hi Mike"

"it's Michael actually"

"go f**k yourself Mike"

You'll give me both syllables of my first name and like it.

Horrible name - wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Named after the ages of your parents and the bus to Bothwell on which you were conceived? That's pretty touching imo.

Jayden/Kayden and other names rhyming with these.

Maybe our Antipodean friends can source the skit.

I remember an Australian show where the script went along the line of a woman rattling off a list of names such as 'Marlene, Sharlene, Darlene etc'

I think it was pointing out a trend at the time where girls names had to end 'ene'

Brett and Brad are also both of Middle English origin. Brett deriving from Briton, and Brad from broad.

Both awful names and shouldn’t be allowed in Scotland.

That's an incredibly wide net you've cast there. James, John, Peter, David, Mark, Michael, Mary, Sarah...

Samuel, Esther, Chloe, Caleb, Noah, Andrew, Joseph...

Also, Davids are all perverts and dullards, according to a mate.

I can see that, but doesn't seem to extend to anyone called Davie. Every person I've met with that name has been far from dull.

Surnames as first names e.g. Taylor, Riley, MacKenzie, Brodie etc.

I quite liked the name Bailey for my son but my mrs was having none of it.

Yea, and it’s stereotyping in the extreme. I guess we could cut it down a bit to the ones more favoured by the Evangelicals around here…you know, Rachel, Sarah, Bartholomew, Elijah, and so forth.
