The only good thing to come out of VAR is the number of cameras there now are at non-televised games, which leads to better highlights. If VAR were scrapped, you can see the SPFL going back to the relatively poor coverage we had before.

Not that that's a strong enough reason to keep it, mind.

What about the game at Dens where there wasn't 2 angles for the ball clearly hitting the Aberdeen defender's hand? If the cameras aren't covering every angle then it's pointless. Get it in the sea.

Linesmen not raising the offside flag when it's blatantly offside is one of the worst things from var. Players are getting into needless challenges as a result. Qatar City lost a goalie thru injury because of it a few weeks a ago in the EPL.

Why doesn't the referee go straight to the monitor and watch what VAR refs are watching instead of standing around for 2mins with a finger to his ear?

It's bollocks and is re-refereeing the game.

The only people who didn't see this coming are all the wee gimps in the fb comments sections saying Scottish Football needs to embrace the modern game and adopt VAR or risk get left behind etc etc. These folk are probably egg chasers who don't attend football games.

That’s a consequence of us only having just above the minimum required cameras. But that’s still more than non-televised games had for highlights pre-VAR.

Should have invested that money in better referee training instead of a glass elephant.

Still doesn't help if a ref doesn't have the best angle of an incident or someone blocks their view at the precise moment something happens

VAR is a good thing, its the ones operating it that arent that good, and also the refs reliant on it,

Take the hearts vs county game at Tynecastle, hearts boy goes down in box, ref thinks its a dive from his angle, VAR involved and the VAR operator good at his job would correctly tell the ref "have another look at this as he is definitely caught"

Absolutely nothing wrong with the VAR system that day, just the guy using it

Which country has found the right set of referees to operate it so it’s popular?

Thats not the question though, the question is about VAR, clubs and fans moaned for decades that refs needed help in getting correct decisions, this is the best we're gonna get unless we spend more money

Do we bin it and go back to the days were refs were unquestionable, take our penalties yesterday (btw im only using our games because i watch them, i know other teams have had awful decisions as well) the ref had excellent views of both incidents and decided none were penalties until VAR got involved, especially the first one what part of VAR the did ref see and think "aye I'll change my mind" when they were pretty stonewall in real time

It is shite at games where time is taken for decisions, it is shite for the ticket paying fans, but unless someone comes up with another way to get more decisions correct during games then it's probably the best we'll get

The UEFA international games I've attended have generally been a lot, lot, lot better than how it is operated here. However, we are talking about the best European officials available.

I'm with 54 above, the operators are not good enough in Scotland. I don't think that will ever change though. Which means it would only be good for factual decisions like ball in and out of play and offside.

Well No, you said VAR is good. It’s just the people operating it. So that must mean there’s a shining example somewhere where people like it?

You are right though, if the goal is to maximise accuracy of decision making then this is it. It’s the best you’ll get.

So maybe it’s a ridiculously flawed system which isn’t fit for purpose, doesn’t achieve what it sets out to, reduces the quality of infield refereeing and actually puts officials under even more pressure to get things ‘right’.

So on that basis, maybe the answer is for football fans, managers, players, pundits to grow up. Accept football is imperfect, accept that marginal offsides can go either way, accept that games are made up of thousands of moments and it hasn’t been settled by the one referee decision that you worked yourself into a frenzy over.

Collectively, we won't accept that. It's why we are where we are just now, because we couldn't accept decisions being wrong. Not helped by wanks like Kenny McHuntyre or down south Adrian Durham who drove these kind of shock jock debates.

f**k them. Deserve what they get. When it comes down to it, we could have a fair system if people like you say just grew up. We wouldn't even need referees. Instead we now have this, because people are always putting self interest first. It's nothing to do with VAR.
