Petty Things That Get On Your Nerves...

Recommended Posts

Is there any way a company can use card details you’ve only put in once to put through another payment (not a direct debit, details from a one off purchase)?

I pay my gym membership on a monthly plan where I can cancel anytime, but last night I accidentally bought a 3 month plan which is a fiver cheaper, but you are committing to 3 months. I mentioned this today and asked to pay the extra fiver and switch back to my usual plan but they said I’ve committed to 3. Surely I can just not input my card details and refuse to pay for the next 2?

Does anyone else have a washing machine with a completely mental timer?

We thought that would be a great wee addition - but the fucking thing is nowhere near accurate. It says 1 hr 40 mins and 2 hours later the display says there's 18 minutes to go. It stays on that for a good 4 or 5 minutes, before eventually crawling down.

We were waiting on it finishing today before going out and it genuinely had me shouting like a lunatic.

Chances are it's not the timer itself. More likely it's not draining the water efficiently enough. Have you checked for coins/fluff/tissues in the wee front filter at the bottom going to the sump hose?.

Yep, it's called a CPA (Continuous Payment Authority) like a Direct Debit but straight off your card, stuff like  Netflix or Amazon Prime do it that way. Best option is if the gym won't play ball, call the bank and ask them to block it (that's if you've not paid it all up front and they'll be coming in next month for another payment)

If they refuse phone your bank & raise it as a dispute, they will have to cancel the CPA if you request it. Should be a cool off period but that will be in the Ts & Cs.

ETA Bert beat me to it.

Looked up T&Cs and it says no cancellation under any circumstances and then says failure to pay will affect your credit rating. Fucking wild this.

Arseholes, they may not put a mark on your File but if they are that petty then they might. Try the tried & trusted option of speaking to the Manager of the Gym as you are actively asking to pay them more, if the dispute isn't upheld the Bank will still cancel the CPA but your Credit Score will likely be impacted.

I'd be phoning up saying you'll pay the 3 months but rest assured they won't be getting another penny from you.

Cheers. I'll check that.

Remember that it will be filled with water and plan ahead accordingly.

I am aware of that thanks. This isn't the insurmountable obstacles thread.

Slightly annoyed at myself that I thought that might actually be a thing.

As per Coprolite's reply, put a towel down and a pyrex dish/shallow bowl. Once you take the stopper out the wee hose it'll have a fair bit of water in it

The only rational response is to burn down the gym imo.

Div wakes up each morning at 0415 from a recurring vivid nightmare about Morton pumping St Mirren.

It clearly is a dream as it's only happened twice in the last 20 years.

In fact it's barely into double figures in the last 45 years.
