  1. Aw man. I was really hoping for "it's just one bad story - the next one is a belter" replies.
  2. Driving in this morning, at the turn-off from the motorway the traffic was very slow. Next to me was a van. We were doing maybe 10mph and the passenger window of the van rolled down. A big dog then stuck it's head out of the window. It was just enjoying the air in it's face. I've no idea why but this (maybe the look on the dog's face) cheered me up no end.
  3. He's been reselected for Uxbridge. In 2019 he had a 7000 seat majority only. Surely he risks a "Portillo moment"? That would be lovely.
  4. Why are we now comparing wages (real and absolute) against mortgages?
  5. I have a bad feeling about this. Series 17 done, and very enjoyable throughout. The Horns of Nimon was as good a story as you'll find. But now I have started series 18. Just 2 episodes watched but oh dear - something dreadful has happened I think. These episodes are really, really poor. The music is dodgy and over everything, dialogue and sound quality all to pot, loads of sitting around and talking about theoretical sciences and no action - and the new title sequence is eye bleedingly bad. I'm hoping it picks up, but is really feels night and day to the end of the last series. I said a while back that I saw a huge and immediate improvement in the quality of writing at the start of the Pertwee era. I'm worried that we're now seeing an immediate drop in quality.
  6. Mad Men is tremendous, watched it through 3 or 4 times now.
  7. I lived in Beddau, about 3 miles from Pontypridd. Pronounced bathe-aw.
  8. This is the standard Fifer uniform at all international tournaments.
  9. I have found an NCP one a little bit away. It'll probably have to do - I'll just do my He-Man bit and humph the stuff round.
  10. I came on here having read on the Head's Gone threads that @craigkillie was having a meltdown . Very disappointed to see he's being rational and measured.
  11. I was useless for the first 4 or 5 nappies. Worried about it being on too tight and hurting the kid. After being covered in pish, I took a different tack. Needs to be virtually airtight. Anyway - congratulations!
  12. Mika Hakkinen. Won the F1 title in 1998 and 1999. Lost out to Schumacher in 2000 after a tremendous ding-dong battle. Then in 2001 he was well off the pace. The story doing the rounds at the time was that the birth of his kid affected him, making him a wee touch risk averse. He left the sport at the end of that season. His last ever win was, coincidentally, the last race Murray Walker commentated on.
  13. Verstappen missing Friday practice after a dose of the two bob bits.
  14. Edinburgh folk: I am at the National Museum in Chambers Street on Saturday. Where is a good place nearby to park? Will be there all day, and it needs to be close as I'm taking in equipment. Also needs to be an official-ish place that gives receipts. Cheers.
  15. I loved the original Elite. My claim to fame, witnessed by a mate, was taking on and beating 4 Thargoids at once. My Cobra mk III was completely tooled up with guns at every window. Made my money trafficking slaves and selling narcotics. Frontier came out and the physics of it was unbelievably good. The missions were brilliant (descending into an atmosphere, taking a photo of a structure and leaving). This came at the expense of the battles, which were a bit poorer. First Encounters was an utter dog's breakfast. Gave up quickly on that. Not tried Dangerous.
  16. Leclerc with a 10 place grid penalty for race 2 of the season. Used too many electronic control units already.
  17. Like most shows, they should have stopped after 5 series. It went downhill pretty fast in the later times, saved only by Cush Jumbo, whom I won't hear a bad word about.
  18. I've had it up to here with jokes that rely on visual imagery.
