Paul Smith was the assistant manager until a few weeks back when he left, and hasn't yet been replaced. Big Berk Posted October 22, 2014 Share Posted October 22, 2014 First and foremost, I think that Murray's next two games are vital. Win them and it'll pretty much be everybody asking for him out. The guy has had a brutal time in terms of squad injuries for the past year since McGurn got injured. We had Paul Watson out injured for ages following on from that, as well as the likes of Elliot, Hill, Barr and Cuthbert all out at various points. We've yet to see what I'd imagine would be any semblance of a first choice defence throughout the course of this season. Once we get Hill, Barr and McGurn in the team playing consistently, I think it'll help things dramatically. If we do look away from Murray, I'd hope we approach Danny Lennon. Aside from him I'd take Derek Adams. I'd rather we didn't go for dinosaurs like Calderwood or Campbell. If Murray had everyone available I think he'd still be sticking to the same shite system. He must take responsibility for the current situation. HE signed McGurn and Hill.in the summer when he KNEW they were injured. Having said that the Board must also shoulder some of the blame. Where is the BIGGER squad. They defended Murrays performance last season by blaming lack of numbers but the squad this year is almost exactly the same size. Some of the squad we all know will never feature so the usable squad is almost still too small. Lang Toun Lad Posted October 23, 2014 Share Posted October 23, 2014 I'm not the biggest fan of Grant Murray either but if anyone thinks the board will sack him when we're sitting 3rd, 4th or 5th is on cloud coo-coo land. It's a psition we'd have been relatively happy with at the start of the season. Going through this thread so far this season it has been littered with Cowden fans all saying how good/great/brilliant/consistent/awesome he was for them, and whilst im not debating he may have been great last season, it makes me question what the hell has went wrong with him this season ! Perhaps he just likes the other side of Fife a touch more You would think the fact Conroy can play LB we would shove him their for a game or 3 and start McKay LM, perhaps that would give McKeown the boot up the rear end that he needs ! I think we were spoilt last season by having Booth who was constantly wanting to get forward and support Cardle. McKeown just seems to get terrified about crossing the half way line. He also seems very suspect at dealing with long balls either misjudging it or just giving away possession. It's a pity as I know Cowden fans rated him so was looking forward to seeing what he could do for us. Of course we still lack strength in depth. We're never going to have a big enough squad for a specialist replacement for every position. And the compromise we made this season was at full-back, which are the two positions where the back-up comes from utility players rather than specialists. Which is unfortunate, given that McKeown has struggled at times. Certainly wasn't afraid of crossing the half way line last season, as Rovers fans should know. He is fast and can hit a ball too. Spence and Smith both struggled over last season as well. Conroy is a goal threat, as is Scott. Paco Posted October 23, 2014 Share Posted October 23, 2014 I took a mate to his first Rovers game at Easter Road and within 15 minutes his summary of what he'd seen was "alright, but your left back is fucking awful". I couldn't argue.
