The Falkirk FC Thread

Extremely impressed with the McGinn signing, we've been missing someone who can dictate a game in the middle of the park for a while. Need to get some legs in beside him now.

Mackie and Oliver are a bit meh but really all that matters is how they perform in the navy blue. Mcglynn's comments on Oliver have put me at ease as he's obviously not seen as the main striker just an option.

                   PJ Morrison
Williamson Donaldson Henderson Mackie
Morrison    McGinn    New       New
                       Oliver
                        New
Certainly starting to take shape

I'd be hoping Oliver is a squad player tbh*. A shitebag of a player that somehow is still FT. I expect this may well be his last move and he'll tumble down the divisions after. He will score against Dunfermline though.

* If I was a Falkirk fan. For selfish reasons I hope McGlynn has him in his first team plans.

Gary Oliver fucking loves a goal against the Pars. I’m sure I counted them at some point last season and something mental like 20%* of his career goals are against us.

*completely random figure, but whatever the correct number is, it’s a ridiculous amount.

Please don't jinx him with this sort of talk.

The very reliable fitbastats.com reckons it is 8 of 27 career goals. Wiki reckons he has 28 league goals so maybe not quite up to date but definitely a big percentage.

He’s scored 10 in his last 12 starts against us. That accounts for 45% of his total goals in the last 5 years.

I'd expect us to sign at least one more forward surely as Gary Oliver and Jaime Wilson as our frontline  partnership ain't going to pull up any trees for us.  Loads of time yet. We still badly need to solve our lack of legs in the middle of the park conundrum. Stephen mcginn good player but at 33 is going to need someone to do the running.

I would almost prefer to see Wilson playing right back in place of the shite house imposter Williamson.

Wonder if McCann would be worth trying on the left of the midfield. His height got him caught out a lot defensively but he could be worth a punt further forward.

I would think on the left side of a Stranraer midfield for me. He looks toast to me

I think I'm in a minority in both of these views but

McGuffie isn't a world beater but he created a few goals last year and would be a passable starter if we're struggling to shift bodies going out the door. I'd rather have him as an option of the bench but would be fine with him wide in a midfield 4 or 5 if need be.

Morrison to me is 10x more effective playing as a central striker where he can get his head down and drive right at defenders. He presses well from the front and is a total pest against some of the bigger slower centre backs we come up against. I'd be fine with him as a starter up top with a partner in a 4-4-2.
