Guest
Hard to assess, and maybe not even worth assessing. Style of play: For me, still no clear style of play, or how we intend setting up. Too many ghosts of last season for me…….endless passing back and forth across the back line. Spencer looking to fetch and carry, but I don’t think he has the engine for it. Not a lot of creativity on show. Not a whole lot of chances created. Tbh, we didn’t look like scoring until Strollers legs went in the last 10 minutes. Carroll’s 10 minutes were absolute quality, and we simply have to see much much more of him this season. Liked Miller. Not put off by losing the ball, and he just kept on trying and never hiding. Lang is a powerful unit. Brad McKay came on for a wee cameo role on giving away the ball. The game means nowt, but my biggest concern is we just seem to be as slow and ponderous in our build ups as last season. We still lack height and physicality in midfield, and crosses didn’t trouble Strollers too much as they dominated in the air. Oh, Agyeman. First impressions are that he is not a striker in a month of Sundays. I think he will play wide. A nothing game, but another howler conceded, and our slow build ups allowed Strollers to near enough always be comfortable set up for our next attack. Small park made the crosses go out as often as land in a danger area. Miller looked ok at times, Pearce (sp?) will be starting for us soon, one day he will be sold for a lot of money. A confident and skilful kid. We were mostly poor though. I'm tempted to suggest we missed Nesbitt (light blue paper and retire to a safe distance). FFS Falkirk - learn to play direct as well as down the wings. Wash your mouth out with soap we will never miss Nesbitt. Although I did never even noticed he wasn't in the squad.

Blame Me
Will try not to read too much into last nights performance as it was our first bounce game after all but ... As noted by an earlier poster, we don't appear to have evolved beyond shelling poor crosses into the box or attempting long diagonals from defence. If there's not much more incomings then the current squad need to find or develop the quality we evidently lacked towards the tail end of last season and didn't have yesterday to make this tactic work. Morrison still looks off-the-pace. I'm afraid, for me currently, he's only in the team on past performance as he's toiled for a worryingly long period now. Not a guaranteed starter for me anymore. Difficult to assess MacIver and Ageyman as the were mainly starved of service and Miller was neat and tidy but I wasn't wowed. Carroll in his short cameo a stand out and would hope he gets more game time than last year.

Would be nice if Morrison actually picked a man or zone when crossing the ball, his delivery was poor all game and seldom beat the first defender. Maybe we’re rusty. Positives for me were Spencer pinging the ball around with ease and keeping play flowing, looks decent. Tom Lang, a vocal defender who actually shouts and talks to his team mates, well done. Miller looked strong on the wings, and was crowded out often, but got in behind a couple of times. ‘Alfie’ Agyeman looked a strong runner, physical and stays on his feet - more to come from him. MacIvor was quieter I thought, but showed nice touches and linked up where needed, Glad Allan got his hoals and off the mark. Decent wing play from Honeyman down the right, rode a challenge and laid it off for the first. Carroll lofted a ball over the top for Allan to run on to for the second. Great confidence for the young lads and would like to see them more involved. Would like to see Carroll and Yeats establish themselves this season two lads with great potential.

Personally I’d hoped he’d empty Oliver and sign another striker who’s a goal threat - can’t see that now so hopefully Allan can get the goals.

I remember when he got on for ten mins last year vs Edinburgh City(I think) there were a lot of glowing reports. I had hoped we'd see more of him in games where we were far enough ahead score wise to stick him on but obviously we didn't have many of those situations! Gets into that age argument of if you are good enough you should play so will be interesting to see if he does get some game time this season - hope so!

Young - he was the first of the under 16s to graduate into a modern apprenticeship at the club - and without going into detail he has had a number of difficult personal issues to deal with. He looked like they have bulked his upper body up a bit since last season. I bet he is starting soon into the new season.

In the ten minutes he got, he immediately stood out as a guy who knows how to play football. Hope he gets the chance to show what he can do, but suspect he won’t.
FFC 1876
Carroll offered something different to McGinn and Spencer as instead of just keeping the ball ticking over he looked for balls over the top of the defence, creating something out of nothing. If Jordan Allan had taken a better touch earlier in the game he could have had himself 2 assists in his short cameo.
