Incentivising the young to use and get used to using the bus service is a fantastic idea, which should in theory result in more take up of public transport and less cars once they get above 18. A 19 year old who has been using the bus for years isnt going to just abandon it when they have to pay if it works for them. Still likely to be cheaper than having a car. Only a fucking doughball wouldnt recieve this as a good idea.

When they gave free bus transport to London teenagers they turned the upper decks into violent youth clubs and terrorised anyone post puberty. Allegedly, and probably from the Daily Mail. Maybe the pass could be made as a withdrawable privilege on an individual basis if it's abused. Same for pensioners gobbling up the seats on Citylink Gold for the free tea and shortbread.

I think you're being pessimistic. Civic Scotland, for want of a better term, is turning towards independence. Once you've got the majority of us singing from the same hymn sheet consistently it gets harder to ignore. That might mean a referendum will not be soon, but it will happen.

It was never ignored.  This is why we had a poll in 2014.

The longer independence takes to happen the worse the country is going to be and the harder the task to build a genuinely fair society. It’s not just about waiting for the inevitable if your interest goes beyond just getting indy.

Scotland has had a devolved government for almost a generation and has had a Natter government for more than a decade.  Plenty of time to make societal changes but it hasn't happened.

The "genuinely fair society" society in Scotland is little different to that in England.  Indeed, there is very little difference in Scotland compared to England. all round except, if you choose wisely, English education is vastly superior to that in Jockland.  This is unsurprising as we've, largely, the same culture and have shared sovereignty for close to half a millennium.

Had Scotland genuinely achieved societal change in its 20+ years of devolution then the case for independence would be compelling.

Why’s it unsurprising that English education is better?

Given our limited powers we've done well on some things like knife crime, alcohol abuse and the NHS here. Crime rates fallen too. We're outperforming the rUK on most things. Education too is pretty good here. My union rep - a Yorkshireman - describes the English system as 'the wild west' and English colleagues up here say things are better.
