I think loads of people will be down on signing Lafferty because of who he is and his association with being a big idiot Rangers fan. People were similarly down on signing Kirk Broadfoot, who turned out to be a very good signing.

Lafferty could be a good signing on the right circumstances - he would give us something different as an attacker certainly. I think going into the season with him as our main forward wouldn’t be ideal though.

I’m a bit 50/50 on how he’ll do for you but the Broadfoot comparison is a good one. Similarly to Broadfoot if he is happy with how everything is going and in a good place mentally then you should get a half decent season from him. With Lafferty though you do feel that the next drama might just be around the corner.

Would need to have an attack totally built around him though with players running off him.

Our Billy and our Kyle have played together for Northern Ireland twice:

- a 2-1 win over Hungary in September 2014. Billy came off the bench after 79 minutes, inspiring Kyle to pull of an assist and then a goal in the time remaining to win the game.

- a 2-0 loss to Romania in November that year.

Also, Billy came on for Kyle against Wales in March 2016.

Any championship sides got Hungarian players who will be quaking in their boots?

All credit to the club for sticking to their guns and getting exactly what they wanted, good business for once.

The club wanted to give him a year.  Looks like the club folded to McKay's/the fans demands.

If you read the statement, it says it “should” see Billy stay until 2025. Could be a years contract with another years option. Still delighted he’s staying for at least another year

The club wanted reduced wages in the second year of the deal which is sensible.

It highlights the obvious lack of man management skills and general management by Gardiner and Dodds in haggling with our leading goal scorer over what the fans saw as a deserved contractual obligation for Billy.

Billy won.

That's pure speculation, a definition of the word 'should' is;

"used to say or suggest that something is the proper, reasonable, or best thing to do"

Billy got his two years plain and simple.

I suspect there’s a clause or option in there for the second year, the wording likely wasn’t a mistake.

Also, the club weren’t against a two year contract, they just wanted the salary reduced.

It’s just pure speculation to say Billy won.
