thistledo
The return of the work Christmas night out is upon us, after at least 2 years of socially distanced Christmas nights, which were somehow even more pish than an actual night out. I actually enjoy a work Christmas night out though, I've posted some anecdotal attempts of humour on here around them, I think I just like observing people out of their work habitat and see who makes a total c**t of themselves. Is everyone looking forward to attending theirs? Are any companies still not doing them? Unfortunately I need to travel to Leeds of all places for mine and I cannot stress how much I cannot be fucked driving all the way to fucking Leeds for it. Very close to using the pregnant missus as an excuse to avoid it, although she's still 3 months to go, seems a bit soon.

Unofficial work Christmas night is usually fucking excellent.

Today she got a citation for jury duty on the same day. She isn't happy about it. As for me, not been to such a thing in years. Cannot stand them.

Only seven of us though, which helps.
ICTChris
I can’t go to mine this year as my wife has work that evening. I do enjoy them but I’m not devastated. I don’t drink anymore and the last one I went to, everyone there was completely steaming and conversation with people who are really drunk when you are not drunk is a bit boring. Back when I worked in Inverness, one of the guys I worked with was having an affair with a woman on the other shift. For the Christmas night out the booked a room in the hotel and they went early for, I assume, some extra marital relations. Then during the meal he broke it off with her because he and his girlfriend were going to try for children. She was a bit upset and phoned her own boyfriend to come down and console her, as he arrived she told us not to say anything, a bit awkward. A few months later she left her boyfriend to run off with a guy she met on holiday who wanted her to go and work in his lap dancing club.

philpy
I'll be at ours. Only be in the job since May, but night and day compared to the last bunch of idiots I worked for/with. Was off for a week and bit with family issues, and was fully paid. Going the black bull at the grassmarket, and Vittoria on the bridge, then brewhemia. All expenses paid. We also get to pick a spirit of our choice at Xmas as a thank you from the boss as well. Last place, all the booze was divided up between the office staff, and the yard guys basically got offered what they didn't want.
Thistle_do_nicely
Ach, ours is in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to it more than previous work nights out tbh, has been a rough year and need to try to find stuff to enjoy as much as possible, although I think I might be meant to be in work the morning after so will have to be conscious and pace myself. edit: in theory I may even be easier taking the car up but that means no drink whatsoever which sounds kinda shite, but it makes life a bit smoother at the end of the night. Can figure it out a bit more nearer the time, there's a place I can crash easilly enough if need be. Have been a bit Mark Corrigan @ Rainbow Rythms before on these kind of events through the years ("if I'm going to look relaxed it's going to take every last ounce of my concentration, focus and skill"), but this time around it helps that I legit like the place + the people, especially in comparison to the last place I worked. DA Baracus
First one for my work since 2019, but I'll be missing it. Usually absolutely great fun.

Unofficial work Christmas night is usually fucking excellent. 100% this. Folk stayed away in droves from the official one this year, which for some reason was actually held the Friday before last due to one of the bosses having the bright idea that they could maximise attendance by not having it in December so there would be less chance of people saying they couldn't afford it. Over the last few years the official one has had any fun progressively sooked out of by management trying to turn it into a stage-managed opportunity to talk about work, and there now seems to be a general consensus not to donate a minute of our own time or a penny of our own money on it. As an alternative, most folk have just organised informal section ones which promise to be a fucksight more fun.
'WellDel
My old work used to have an all expenses paid do every year. The vast majority of the guys I worked with were sound so had some great nights getting absolutely smashed for free. The shift work in my current job doesn't really allow for us to organise anything en masse, so a few of us who are on our rest days this weekend are heading to the union agm on Sunday then heading out for a good tank at it afterwards. Looking forward to it. Edited December 5, 2022 by 'WellDel
Michael W
Ours is on Friday. Not going as getting in/out via public transport is too much of a pain in the arse and I need to be up early on Saturday. I could drive in and not drink, but that would most probably be rubbish once people have had a few. A shame as it sounds good. Maybe next year.

Central Belt Caley
We’ve got ours next week, meal paid for by the boss then the guys who enjoy football (3 of us) will be sneaking off to watch the world cup semi-final. Meant to be a train strike on so getting in and out will be a pain.
Busta Nut
I don't think ma work have one. We were just given £50. A few chat's about an "unofficial" one have led to nothing yet. Lucky for me I suppose as I am a ticking time bomb (to completely cúnt it) about twice a year.
