This started a five year stint in the top flight under Benny Rooney's management. A part time side who briefly topped the Premier League and made three cup semi finals.

Just about every smaller Scottish team has a small window of punching above its weight. Thinking about clubs like East Fife in the last 40's and 50's with league cup wins and Scottish cup final appearances , Dunfermline in the 60's with Scottish cup wins and even Saints with 3 trophies in the last 9 seasons. It must be a bit gutting that that team only has three cup semi finals to its name and the club has been in decline/left behind a bit ever since.

Are you hoping they're going to emulate this success in the upcoming 40's and 50's?

The programme from Third Lanark v St Mirren match, 21st November 1964, Thirds last win in the First Division. In fact it was Thirds last points in the First Division, as they lost their succeeding 21 league games + 5 of their Summer Cup sectional ties. The only bright spot in the next 6 months was a 5-1 Scottish Cup win at Telford Street and then 2 draws with Dunfermline in the next round (who went on to reach the final) before being knocked out in a second replay, and a 5-2 win in their concluding Summer Cup tie against fellow relegatees, Airdrie. Little wonder their last home league game attracted an attendance of 856. (The previous home game - against Rangers - had an attendance of 4,272.)

The League Magazine is saying that this is Hampden. One of the earlier ones, surely.

This is a case of embellishing upon what was actually there - I've never come across any photos of opening day at the third (current) Hampden on October 31st 1903 and I honestly doubt that any exist. At first, the main stand was actually two grandstands with a building in between the two that eventually became one stand as seen in the photos, but the big tall towers didn't exist and this was simply a bit of artistic license from the illustrator. I love seeing photos of how stadiums develop over the years, and photos of Hampden along these lines fascinate me. I can only wonder what it was like to have had the excitement of going to a new ground back then - the only ground that I've been at opening day for was the current St. Mirren Park where Kevin Kyle scored the first ever goal at the new place.

Not sure if this is the right thread for a post like this, but here goes. We may end up in the play-offs, in which case this post is maybe a couple weeks early.

Yesterday marked the last league home game for Ayr, meaning, the last regular league game with the old North Terrace in its current look.

North side of the ground is being given a much needed redevelopment over next season and will certainly change the look of the old place. The plans are very popular with the Ayr support. Thankfully, there will still be terracing and the new stand will come with some additional seating (around 800 seats I think) along with a roof. A significant hospitality space and clubhouse is the main part of the build.

One of the worst ever Rovers teams against one of the best ever Aberdeen teams.

Scottish Cup 4th Round 1985.

Aberdeen won 2-1 thanks to a double from Frank McDougall.

One of our better performances in a season where we got pumped 5-1 away and 3-0 at home to Cowdenbeath.

Not sure if Leighton is wearing trackie bottoms because of the snow or just to hide his bandy legs.

There was a lot of trouble at the game between Aberdeen and Hibs casuals I believe...

Sad. One of the last grounds from me starting to go to all our away games from 1970 onwards that are still, more or less, as they were then.

From what I can remember, Hibs had a game up north which was postponed. As a train load of their casuals were making their way back, they pulled the communication chord to stop the train and a load of them piled off and climbed into the ground (before the days of pneumatic train doors and before the railway stand at Stark's Park ran the full length of the pitch).

Was thinking recently it feels like we hardly ever get significant stadium developments to get excited about, so good to hear Somerset is getting work done.

Sounds like the seats are mostly going to be for hospitality, but the best bit is a roof over the side terracing, as the away terrace behind the goal is a poor view.

Thats if away fans are still going to be given half the terracing along that side?

This result was achieved by arguably the worst Rovers team ever (never won a home league match the entire season) and which had lost 10-0 at Pittodrie earlier in the season (https://afcheritage.org/matches/fixtures/mreport.cfm?fixture_id=2582&season=1962-63&squad=Senior) - https://afcheritage.org/matches/fixtures/mreport.cfm?fixture_id=2602&season=1962-63&squad=Senior

It's not quite half, but aye my understanding is that the same split will be expected and away fans will have that bit of the stand along the side of the pitch towards that corner.

It was 62/63 that we lost 10-0 at Pittodrie.

The stats aren't good from that season, but the only mitigation is that it was in the top league (and we made the Scottish Cup semis that season).

The 84/85 vintage was basement league and to finish as low as we did with Keith Wright, Paul Smith and Paul Sweeney in the side, speaks volume about the rest and the management.

Yes, that's what the first link is, the second link is to the Scottish Cup game later that season.
