It's a bit of a misconception that the German economy is heavily manufacturing biased. It does have more manufacturing than the UK in % terms but the difference is not that stark:

 

Deindustrialisation is par for the course in most Western countries.

I've been in several  visiting relatives over the years and they really are absolute shiteholes. I get that it must be really hard work caring for folk with multiple issues but the standards in most are fucking atrocious.

I also note Barbados is recording their highest rate in cases and deaths in months, all traced back to British and Canadian tourists.

Right at the start, Rutte the Dutch PM literally used the words “herd immunity” as a strategy in his first televised speech on Covid.  Dutch response has never filled me with confidence they had much of a plan, similar to the UK government of making it up as they go along.

Had two factories close and seen the entire electronics industry collapse due to shipping jobs out depsite full order books to save money.
Got zero financial help and one company let us away for interviews.
Supposed task force blah blah did nothing.

Farmers got paid millions for creating their own problems by feeding sheep to cows to save cash.
Bankers played casino for years then got bailed out.

I guess unless it effects the rich or south east then nobody cares.

Furlough money could have saved all these firms for a few years.

Why would govt money go to fund those who suffered because of greedy owners. Likes of Jabil and Solectron will unfortunately always reap what they sow. Still a big enough market for missiles locally at Raytheon.
The pandemic has actually caused fairly large increases in the costs of using China. So hopefully more than just PPE supply will return to these shores.
I run a manufacturing (Electronics) facility in Fife and ensure I can jump in the car to visit all my contract manufacturers. Still some good small to medium size cem's in Fife, Musselburgh and Livingston.
My plastic and metalwork is all tooled and produced locally.
Even my cardboard packaging (If anyone could get any due to those tax dodgers Amazon using their purchasing fist).

That's just my point.

Leitch says summer 2021 and it seems most on here believes that despite the same people having dismissed as shite almost everything else he's said throughout this, papers have front page spreads saying Feb / Mar and it's dismissed as pish. How is Leitch any more likely to be right than those advising the papers. A hell of a lot of negativity in here !
