Florentine_Pogen
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/aug/17/inflation-10-percent-class-war-brexit-cost-of-living-crisis "If there is a class war – and there is – it is important that it should be handled with subtlety and skill,” wrote Maurice Cowling, the influential rightwing historian, in the late 1970s. “It is not freedom that Conservatives want; what they want is the sort of freedom that will maintain existing inequalities or restore lost ones.” The nature of Conservatism has altered very little since, but the class on whose behalf the Tory party fights has changed dramatically: where once it was doctors and lawyers, businessmen, “respectable people”, it is now hedge fund managers and property developers, the filthy, the super, the Croesus rich. If you’re less wealthy than Jacob Rees-Mogg, the party has fought a 12-year war against you, and – newsflash – it won."
DA Baracus
Heard some lassie from the Young Conservatives complaining that folk in Perth were calling her "Tory scum". Was she expecting applause and cheers?

Was she expecting applause and cheers? It's no surprise they clearly haven't been paying attention to the Scottish political landscape. Presumably they'll turn up in Aberdeenshire at some point in the future and wonder why folk there are viciously angry with them anaw. You really have to wonder though about the mental capacity of someone who openly aligns themselves with the folk responsible for the shitshow at Westminster, shows their face in public, and then has a wee bubble about the fact they're shunned and greeted with hostility. I suppose if you were going to put money on anyone being completely aloof, and oblivious to how other people perceive them though, it would be fucking Tory gonks.

tamthebam
Water in England and Wales was privatised by the Major Government to avoid them having to spend money on fixing leaks and complying with EU regs to stop shite being pumped into the sea Three decades of paying out dividends and directors bonuses and they still have a problem with leaks and stopping shite being pumped into the sea...

But it introduced competition. As a consumer in Wales i can choose whether to buy my water from Welsh Water or to move somewhere else and buy their water instead. And if public utilities were so great why did their CEOs not get half a million a year?

"Rwanda is a safe country and that is why we made an agreement with a country that we knew to be safe." Gnnnnarrrrgghhhhh!!! Just lie and it'll all be fine. The unspoken thing here is the threat of "come to the UK for asylum and we'll send you somewhere else that we know to be dangerous". The whole point is to use a country best known on the world stage for some of the worst violence in modern times. It speaks volumes that they're willing to be so disingenuous about it. While a fair few people would happily see foreigners emptied into an incinerator if it meant not having to leave near them, it's probably a good thing that the government doesn't feel able to just come out and admit this is part of their ongoing 'hostile environment' plan. They aren't comfortable that it's enough of a vote winner for more than their core vote.
