I think that's a fair assessment, but persuading a lot of European NATO countries that spending on the military gives you influence, and influence not to use it, is difficult.

Olof Palme will be spinning in his grave.

Lots more will be following him among the Kurdish diaspora getting sold down the river in an obsession with fighting Cold War 2.

Well the silver lining is there's such a long history of Kurds being betrayed they're probably used to it by now

This Swedish MP has sort of embodied all the various contradictions around Sweden, Turkey, Nato and Kurds: https://archive.ph/pEV1P

She's an Iranian-Kurd yet the Turkish ambassador still demanded Sweden allow for her extradition to Turkey (which isn't possible). She fought as a teenager for an Iranian-Kurd peshmerga against the Iranian government. She has never had anything to do with Turkey.

The anti-government protests by women in Iran are largely a Kurdish effort. Not exclusively, the most famous woman in the movement - Narges Mohammadi - is ethnic Persian. However, recent martyrs to the cause such as Mahsa Amini and Armita Geravand have been Kurdish. The movement's slogan "woman, life, freedom" is Kurdish, originating with the PKK in Turkey: https://progressive.international/wire/2022-10-14-jin-jiyan-azadi-is-not-a-hashtag/en

So opposition to Kurdish liberation (and in Iran, that crosses over into opposition to women's liberation) is an area where Nato and Iran have found a common cause.

The breakaway Transnistria government have formally asked RUssia for protection from Moldova.  I think there are still Russian troops based in Transnistria but only a couple of hundred of mainly locals who have been co-opted into the Russian armed forces.  I'm not sure what Russia can actually do in practical terms regarding this request - they are nowhere near the border, they can't send troops via the Black Sea as several of the landing ships have been sunk or damaged and sailing them to the region would see them targeted by Ukrainian anti-ship drones and missiles.  I guess they could launch some strikes on Moldova but not sure how effective that would be.

There has been talk during the war in Ukraine of intervention before but it didn't come to anything.

I much preferred this thread when it was mainly a debate about what was/was not a tank.

Lets get back on 'track'.

Tank - aye or naw?

Another Russian navy ship went kaboom last night after a drone attack

Russian channels now reporting it was sunk, after initial reports said it made it back to base.

Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has released a video of the strike.

The soundtrack provided by the Ukrainian Corries makes this a very strange video to watch.
