That's actually a feature of modern stadia. Architects don't seem to be able to grasp the idea that stands are supposed to keep spectators sheltered from the wind and the rain

Alternatively, architects do know but are instructed to build the cheapest option.

I think at its maximum the capacity was 10,723 and that’s since been reduced slightly to allow for additional camera positions at the back of the stands and for a new disabled area in the away end of the Main Stand. Fairly sure it was after the first season at McDiarmid, where we averaged 6000 in the first division (current championship), including two sell outs. There was concern the ground was nowhere near big enough for demand in the premier.  If it wasn’t that season then at the very latest it was the season afterwards where we averaged 9000 at home in the first season back up in the top league.  
 

As JB said, the club put in seats in the walkways and an extra row at the very back in the East, North and South Stands.

The roof will have been designed to take certain wind loads and the design will allow for a reduced probability of those happening during a game so that the roof can resist the lower wind loads without the additional support. There will probably be a similar judgement applied to potential snow loading and this will have been part of the original design so will remain the case unless they rebuild the stand.

There was mention of the colours of seats a page or two ago - when the plastic benches were put in the Wee Dublin End in 1981-2, the benches were red, blue and yellow (but faded very quickly).

This still from a derby in 1983 is the only thing I could find that sort-of shows this.

This is absolutely tremendous work, well done to all involved. Would love to see something at RP but the issue that we have is that underneath the Moffat, East and Chadwick stands is exposed to the elements so any artwork wouldn't last as long. Still, the murals that have appeared in the last few years are great and I'd love to see more. Even at Glasgow Perthshire, where local kids have had the opportunity to create artwork across the ground with spray paint art, artwork can be used to give a real sense of identity and character to a ground.
