Hamilton Academical v Raith Rovers: THE FINAL

Well done Accies. Fully deserved.

As for Rovers, you can’t fail to show up for 45 minutes in a final and expect anything. With hindsight, the sending off was the only thing that gave us any hope but a combination of quality goalkeeping and poor final balls meant it wasn’t to be. Kind of sums up our season. Stay up and rebuild is the best we can hope for.

Isma was poor, but he was left isolated tbh and having to deal with punts forward. Which as we've seen, isn't his game.

We had 40 minutes with a huge amount of set pieces, with no centre forward and no physical presence, yet floated balls into the box that were a dream to defend.

Been impressed with his ability to hold up the ball and protect it since he signed, but today he wasn’t even doing that. And he was injured. Think he was definitely the right choice to come off.

Think that’s a bit harsh on Murray. Isma was rank rotten when he was on and holding his back for about ten minutes before he went off. If he’d been left on, the likelihood is he’d have kept doing nothing.

We would've at least had someone tall to aim the four thousand high balls into the box at, if nothing else. Hamilton were always going to sit in after the red card and he would've quite possibly managed to get onto something or even provide a knockdown for someone.

He was poor as you say, but was far from alone out there. Vaughan another that could very easily have been hooked and Spencer was fortunate to emerge for the second half.

Didn't realise he was injured, fair enough.

Still think it was crazy to play as direct as we did at times however, given how little threat we offer from set pieces.  Every single set piece should have been taken short.

Well played Accies.

Ultimately,  the manager got that wrong tbh.  Taking Isma off was the wrong call, Vaughan was the obvious option.  After not scoring in that 5 minute period after the red card - we had absolutely zero physical threat and ended up not really making the numerical advantage tell too much - after a frantic 10 minute period - and  ended up with about 6 attacking players on the pitch all trying to do the same thing.

Some fantastic goalkeeping and defending, and there was chances, but can't help but feel that wasn't the right way to play against 10 men.  The set pieces especially were dreadful.

Raith always seemed to have plenty of space down the left hand side, but never made anything of it.

Interesting you reference the refereeing.  The outcry over VAR is drowning out the problems that exist in the three lower divisions.

Agreed. Part of the reason VAR is a mess, is that people like Colin Steven operate it. In the meantime, the lower leagues suffer even worse referees as some of the allegedly better ones need to sit at a computer screen. You can see why it ends up the way it does.

Totally agree. We played into Accies hands.

Absolutely astounded that after one defeat, you implode tbh.

It's one game.  It's probably better for you if you don't support the Rovers to be honest, and I use the term support loosely.

It was a cup final, not one defeat,? The guy is disappointed to lose in the final , you say not to support his team? REALLY ? FFS 😵

He consistently throws toys out of the pram after every single defeat tbh.  He doesn't support the team.

Tbf the guy in question has been talking shite throughout the thread. If that's his normal behaviour I can see why other Raith posters (who FWIW are generally a decent a fair bunch) are a bit short with him.

As others have said, if you don't bother turning up for the first 45 minutes then you're immediately cutting your chances of getting anything from the game.  Second half we started better, and the sending off made it near enough one way traffic.  But we could still be playing now and wouldn't have scored.

Surprised so many people are moaning about Isma being taken off given he was clearly carrying a knock.  Seems like Murray let him have the first 10 minutes of the second half to see how it was, it didn't improve so took him off.  Which is fair enough, but then meant we were stuck playing the rest of the game without an out and out striker.

Aye, this is it. Absolute reactionary drivel.

Well done Hamilton, well deserved. Not huge numbers but their support backed their team very, very well orchestrated by Rankin and helped get them over the line.

I thought we moved the ball pretty well second half, just maybe needed to be a bit more intricate with our final ball from the wide areas as cross after cross played into Hamilton’s hands. Still had enough pressure and openings that on another day we probably would have got a goal but just didn’t get the break of the ball, allied to some excellent goalkeeping from Fulton. Didn’t think it was a red card either so Hamilton deserved that little bit of luck.

I really can’t be too critical of the second half, it was the first half where the game was lost. We were absolutely dreadful the first 45 and if you only play for half a cup final, you can’t have any complaints about being on the losing side. Frustrating day.

Congratulations to Accies.
