Ayr vs Inverness - 12/8/23

I feel like Delaney has somehow gotten away with less criticism for his defending on that goal because it’s the fifth game in a row where we’ve done something that stupid.

Striker is unmarked in the box for so long, he hangs back off him and then lunges towards the other player at the last minute, getting caught in no man’s land.

Really poor. Surely we cannot be planning to play him at CB this year.

He seemed to have days like that last season as well where he looked utterly fed up trying to making something out of nothing. Sometimes our football is eye bleedingly bad and it can't be much fun for someone like Mckay to chase lost causes for 90 minutes.

Your use of sometimes suggests there have been points throughout history where it has not been. I find this difficult to understand.

Shaw is out of contract at the end of the season but if he keeps up the form he showed in the second half of the last campaign he'll have far better options to pick from than Ayr United.

It’s bad enough leaving one man free in the box but when the ball came back in both Ayr players were wide open when they got the ball. Shambolic defending yet again.

We were never going to get a Robbie Deas type replacement for Robbie Deas but to not strengthen our options at CB is looking more and more ridiculous with each passing week. Duffy and Delaney are...okay. Passable at LB/RB but when they move inside they seem to collapse. Devine is not a leader and cannot marshal his CB partner IMO. He's benefitted from Broadfoot and Deas as a partner in the last couple of seasons but he seems unable to take charge himself which is quite damning given he should be coming into the "peak" of his career. Blend all this up and you get a defence that looks lost each game.

There is no better option
