Players offering to fight supporters

If you shout abuse in person, aye
If you seek out a player/club and abuse them online, aye
If a player/manager comes in to a football forum to read comments, No

What next, if you think a player is bad in the comfort of your own house, you should immediately drive to the ground and bellow it in to their face or you are a hypocrite ?

You think it in your own house then it's only in your head surely?

Giving it out on an Internet forum is totally different, it's putting your thoughts out there for the person concerned and the whole world (potentially) to read.

If you feel strongly enough tell the person to their face.

Feel free to type away with what you believe just don't be surprised if or when you get called out and it could happen.

I'm not speaking to the person so I'm doing alright is the bizarre bit.

I don't care if a player or manager reads what I say because I am expressing an opinion on what my thoughts are for discussion. Which is the basis of this forum. I have never been so angry that I have thought about square going a player. Advocating the latter as you seem to be is bizarre.

The whole "say it to their face" thing is bizarre to me, if i think someone is a c**t i'll actively avoid speaking to them.

I had a wee bit of a trolling of Moffat when he left Ayr because tbh I was a bit upset he left

We got promoted against Stranraer and he was right into my DMs with a photo of Ryan Stevenson giving the middle finger then he was jumping all over me out at the pub after, said he thought it was a laugh etc, even came on my podcast when I was doing it a couple years later.  Some man, should have stayed.

You're ignoring my point totally which is if you're comfortable calling people out on here you should feel equally comfortable saying it to their face. Like at the next fans forum or match even.

I'm not saying don't post your opinion or thoughts but it must be a strange world when folk go to matches or club events and sit, nod and even politely applaud people and then go home and hide behind their p&b account/s to post their true feelings about them.

Bizarre, weird and strange behaviour as you say.

BEFORE YOU TAKE THAT THROW-IN, I FELT I HAD TO TELL YOU...AFTER WATCHING THE HIGHLIGHTS AFTER LAST SATURDAY, I THOUGHT YOUR MARKING WAS POOR!

You are right, totally normal.

Not weird at all.

The opportunity for reasoned debate and discussion seems to have long passed you by.

It’s far too simplistic to think that you can’t say anything online that you wouldn’t be comfortable saying to a person’s face.

That said a lot of people do get far too aggressive with their views online, when they wouldn’t elsewhere, even if it’s just for effect. Not saying I’m not guilty of it myself.

Lee Bullen for example isn’t many Ayr fans’ cup of tea right now and plenty of criticism is warranted. That said he always comes across as a completely inoffensive character so I don’t have any dislike of him, yet there’s some needlessly vitriolic stuff posted on the Ayr thread about him from time to time that I don’t think gets expressed anywhere else.

Bobby Wilson would have been the manager then and I can't imagine him picking a fight.

In fairness to Wellyboot, there was a ding dong between Connor and fans at Meadowbank. Possibly 87/88 when we punched above our weight for most of the season before running out of steam, and a defeat at Meadowbank effectively ended our title hopes. Some fans turned on the players and I think that's when Connor offered to reason with them over a quiet pint in the Golden Gates across the road.

I was at that game. A Raith looney came charging out of the Meadowbank stand towards the dugouts that were on the stand side at the time to have words with Connor before the stewards caught up with him. Some Thistle fans were worried this might have repercussions for the club re: security whereas the 16 year old me was waiting to see Connor batter him.

Has anyone ever been offered a square go by a director because I have. It was during the Bill "Blobby" Hunter era and we were protesting against the board moving Thistle to Livingston. We'd heard one director had tried to sell his dad's house even though it was council property so up at Station Park we shouted this at the particular Thistle director in the Forfar stand. "How did you hear about that" he said. John Bain, another Thistle director, who was tired and emotional asked me and a pal for a square go round the back of the stand so we went to a nice polis and said "That nasty man's threatening us, can we get an escort back to the supporters' bus". And we did.

That tale didn't appear in Bain's book about Meadowbank Thistle and Livingston funnily enough.

Another one that comes to mind was an Edinburgh City player threatening a City fan. It was pointed out that said City fan was the Club Treasurer and paid his wages and an apology was forthcoming..
