Don't fancy the forth crossing. My only gripe with the Forth Crossing is that it doesnae go "gdink...gdink" like the Forth Road Bridge. Massive oversight on the part of the designers there.

Boo Khaki
I get the inherent fear of crossing big bridges because I suffer from a form of gigantophobia myself, but with me it's ships and boats, so I'm forever glad I was born after the opening of the Tay and Forth Bridges, and I was never forced to take the Fifey or the ferry from Queensferry. The bridges don't bother me at all, but I get palpitations at the sight of anything bigger than a rowing boat and you'd have to drug me B.A. Baracus style to get me in anything bigger than one. I still miss having to go down past the hotel, through the centre of Perth and across the auld bridges rather than the Friarton though. It's a vivid memory of trips in the car from Dundee to Edinburgh when I was a bairn, and it's never been quite the same since the Friarton was opened.

There are drive-over companies that you can hire to drive your car over if you are unwilling to do so yourself. They should try that with Coatbridge.

That's the bit I don't like, because it's so steep and the climb is so long it feels like the start of a roller-coaster before the big drop.

Melanius Mullarkey
Anyone been across the Millau in France? I once got the main French engineer boy (Virlogeux) across to Dundee to give a talk on it when it was mid construction. In all fairness he was a bit of a boring c**t.

SlipperyP
By all accounts they got a 2 minute warning from the ship captain and stopped all traffic from from crossing the bridge. That's some effort and well done. Unfortunately 6 workers on the bridge came to their fate. I'd imagine there were barriers stopping vehicles. Does the scottish bridges have barriers? I remember the Forth Road bridge having them. Edited March 27 by SlipperyP
