Lex
Will there even be a vote? You got to admire his brass neck if he does go to the floor as first minister knowing he’s relying on Ash Regan and the goodwill of the presiding officer sticking to convention to stay in place. If he does win by one vote, what then? Does he expect to continue as a unelected First Minister for the next two years, knowing he’s just a falling out with Ash Regan or yet another SNP defection away from another vote of no confidence? It would be the Ash Regan parliament, with him in her back pocket at every turn. It’s impossible to run a credible administration like that. His authority is gone regardless of this votes outcome. He should either resign and let the SNP try find a leader who the Greens will have confidence in, or go to the polls as FM himself and ask the Scottish public for a mandate. However, given his clear delusion, I suspect he won’t do either of those things and he maybe even genuinely believes he can be FM for two more years and lead the SNP into a May 2026 Parliamentary election. Back in the real world, the chances of that happening are zero.

The notion that he could resign and Neil Gray steps in unelected is just nonsense.

I think he might be persuaded this is the only course of action over the weekend. Lets be honest, its the only realistic outcome. Labour couldnt get into bed with the Tories ahead of the UK GE, that would be a gift to the SNP and remind people of how those kunts worked together in 2014.

Elric
Assuming that both Sturgeon and Mathieson make the effort and turn up at the Scottish Parliament for the vote. There is also the possibility that there is disharmony within the ranks and some member may take the opportunity to vote against him.

I’m not sure why she thinks a heady mixture of right wing populism and conspiracy theories is the way forwards. Perhaps because grifting seems to pay.

D Angelo Barksdale
Surely the funniest outcome is if some backbench jobber from any party accidentally presses the wrong button when voting and ends up keeping/dumping Humza.

Sure that happened a few years ago - Kezia Dugdale pressed the wrong button on some vote. Wouldnt put it past some of them not to understand if they were meant to vote For or Against the motion.....................

ICTChris
Technically speaking, Yousaf doesn't have to resign if he loses the vote. He can just say "f**k it" and go on. Anas Sarwar has now lodged a motion of no confidence in the Scottish Government. Douglas Ross' motion is in Yousaf himself so if Yousaf resigns then the motion will be dropped.

Yeah, Ross doesn't want to trigger an election that would see his party wiped out, so an interesting game of chicken foing on here, escalating from the notion that the Greens are shitehawks who'd take leaving government on the chin.
renton
At the same time, do "Scottish" Labour really want to get into a Holyrood election now? Can imagine it'd screw up a lot of Starmer's planning and would prematurely expose Labour's GE positioning, as well as spending money they might need for Scottish seats in the GE later...

O'Kelly Isley III
Expect to see a lot of coverage of Kate Forbes in the coming days, and especially from those who wish to consign the SNP to the pages of history. -

I’ve always felt a bit sorry for left leaning voters in England whose only real choice under FPTP was Tory or Tory Lite. Imagine if the choice in Scotland becomes Tory, Tory Lite or Tory Ecosse.
MP_MFC
Curious to see how Sarwar thinks he’ll get 2/3 majority. What is clear though reading the live feed on the BBC is that the majority of media and English politicians have no idea how our parliament works.

Unless he gets the backing of another party then that motion will fall - 25 MSPs needed and Labour only have 22 MSPs. Labour are just playing games - I notice Rachel Reeves called for a Scottish Election knowing full well it won't happen. Labour don't want it to happen and are being the usual duplicitous shitebags.
