DiegoDiego
As a proud £5 Casio owner I can confirm that checking it is quicker than taking my phone out of my pocket, trying my thumb print to switch it on, failing, wiping my thumb, trying again, failing and keying in my 4 digit code.Which reminds me of another time a wristwatch proves useful: when your hands aren't clean, such as cooking or gardening.
Bigmouth Strikes Again
Watches are crazy at the moment, especially Rolex if you could somehow manage to buy a Daytona from an authorised dealer, then as soon as you walk out the shop door you've made 15k at least. Past few years non stop price increase, a better investment than property. Thank you.

What I meant was, surely you only have to press the power or unlock button on the side of the phone and then the screen comes on with the time?
GordonD
I bet all those decrying watches don't know how to tell the time on an analogue clock!

No idea, I can tell the time before putting my hand in my pocket because I have a watch.

When your phone is out of battery or charging out of reach. 6. When your phone is in your purse. 7. When you are places phones are banned. 8. When having a phone in your pocket is impractical. 9. When watching a football match. In all those scenarios a quick glance at your wrist is the best way to know the time. Thinking spending a few quid for that convenience is a bizarre vanity exercise is itself bizarre. 1. Put the thing down, then look at the time. 2. Slow down, then look at the time. 3. I haven't been on a plane in 15 years. 4. If I'm reading a book I don't want or need to know what time it is. 5. Watch batteries run out and are significantly more awkward to replace than a phone is to recharge. 6. I'm a man, I have pockets. 7. If I'm in a place where phones are banned there's likely to be a communal means of displaying the time, or reminders, or I don't have to worry about it. 8. I usually only wear my Daisy Dukes, yoga pants or garter belt/suspenders combo in the comfort of my own home so this is moot. 9. Whether at home or in person I don't think there's anything stopping someone from carrying a phone with them.
die hard doonhamer
I’m a smartwatch wearer. Can leave my phone at the other end of the house and still get notifications when messages/calls come through, and don’t ever have to have the phone off of silent. And I don’t have to take my phone out of my pocket to check the time.
Thorongil
I never bothered with a watch until a year ago when I got given an Apple Watch for my birthday. It’s quite good. My only complaint is that it’s yet another thing that needs to be charged a lot.

Wouldn't class that as a watch, more like a mini computer.

Honest_Man#1
When I try to log in to my British Gas account it tells me I need to reset my password, but when I do that it just comes up and gives me the same error. I phoned a couple of weeks ago and they said it was a bug and they’d investigate and get back to me. Nothing yet, and now the phone or chat function aren't working. I’m severely tempted to cancel the direct debit and then I’m sure they’ll be in touch asap to get it sorted.
