atfccfc
Whitburn Juniors V Whitehill Welfare at Central Park. 1-0. Crowd 540. Entry £8 programme £2. This was the last of the Groundhop games this weekend. And the only one I could make. Had a schoolboy error and agreed to over time on Friday so missed the Armadale game, which I had planned to do. The match was played on a very heavy pitch which cut up very badly, very quickly. It's a credit to both teams that they managed to try and play football on it. The game though was very tight, with the hosts having a goal disallowed in the first half when the forward was deemed to be interfering with play as a header from the edge of the box from his team mate (who was not offside) went in. Whitburn though had the better chances and got their goal on around 67 minutes when a corner was turned home by Darren Liddell. Whitburn could've had a second as they hit the post and had another chance cleared. But had to settle for a deserved 1-0 win.
Andy groundhopper
First part of gdsfl double starts at Petershill : Glasgow Caledonian 0 Maryhill Blackstar 6. att 8 and 1 dog. Dominant performance, the older heads keeping control - while motm Justo Bernardo ran Caley ragged, quick and skilful.
Andy groundhopper
Part 2 at Drumoyne Park : Glasgow Irish 3 Maryhill Milan 3. Going 31 up, the leaders got complacent bringing on all the subs, and got sloppy at the back against a lively Irish attack. Both sides weren't able to move in units, leaving massive gaps for breakaways, fitness shouldn't be a factor in March.Despite the heavy rain at times, enjoyable stuff and credit to the Irish on their comeback.
GordonS
Nairn St Ninian's Women 3-3 Ross County Women. The Showfield, att 40. A cracker of a finish. St Ninian's had taken the lead about an hour into the game through a magnificent mishit, a shot from 25 yards out that came off the foot like a pitching wedge and chipped the keeper. Think Phillipe Albert against Man Utd, if he'd actually meant to blast it. County stormed back and had a 3-1 lead as the game went into injury time, but the home side kept upping their intensity and battled their way to a deserved draw with a couple of very late goals. Nairn St Ninian's are one of the very few clubs in Scotland whose men's and women's teams share a grass pitch. It's a very basic ground right beside the A96, and a lovely place to spend a couple of hours on a sunny Sunday afternoon in spring.
Popular Post Judy Murray
Just left River Plate vs Gimnasia at the Monumental. One of the most incredible football experiences of my life. I’m a ball of sweat atm but managed to convince the mental boys next to us that Hibs exist.
Crow
Bonnyrigg Rose 1-2 Clyde (1-0 HT) @ New Dundas Park . cinch SPFL League 2. 3pm. Huge game in the battle to stay up and Rose struck first 70 seconds in. Clyde turned the game on its head though in the 2nd half to move just 3 points behind the hosts. Crowd 759.
Crow
Manchester United 4-3 Liverpool AET (1-2 HT) @ Old Trafford . FA Cup QF. 3.30pm. Dramatic afternoon as the visitors failed to take their 2nd half chances and then contrived to lose it from 3-2 up in extra time. United winning it in the 121st minute. Crowd 72291 (9122 away).
Andy groundhopper
Musselburgh 2 Sauchie 1 visitors had 1st half chances, forcing some good saves, fell behind when a great cross was well taken. 20 after a flowing move ended being thumped home. Sauchie back into it 21, then the hosts had a red card around 70 mins (harsh imo) However wayward finishing and good defending gave Mussy the deserved points. Decent game and ground.
Crow
Preston Athletic 4-2 Vale of Leithen (2-0 HT) @ Pennypitt Park . EOSFL 1st Division. 7.30pm. The home side led comfortably thanks to quickfire doubles ️️ either side of the break. The Vale fought back in the closing stages but had left themselves too much to do. Crowd 103.
The Mantis
Another who was at the Pennypit. Ian Flynn's Vale side much improved but still seeking their first point. Two mistakes around the half hour had them behind at half time. Another two quick-fire goals after the break had dominant Preston 4-0 up, but two terrific finishes on the break from Daniel Taylor made it 4-2 before Vale had a glorious chance for a tap-in which would have made it a nervy end for the home side. Final score 4-2. Obligatory pre-match visit to the Goth in the Pans where they had Peelywally from the Winton Brewery.
Sherrif John Bunnell
Sadly I'm not going to either, but two of the biggest grudge matches in international football take place today.
Groundhopping Adventures
Raith Rovers 1-5 Hibernian Lewis Vaughan's testimonial. Ex players? - check. Good fun had by all? - check. Raith get a dodgy penalty to let them win? Eh no that didn't happen. Took tonight as an opportunity to tick off San Starko. Don't get to see Premier League teams very often and good to attend the benefit match for the man whose career was severely hampered by 4 different ACL injuries. Two fairly strong teams given neither are playing at the weekend sees Hibs rump a Rovers team that are obviously focused on the Championship race. Great to see Mickey Cameron and Iain Murray make cameo appearances with 10 minutes left. A disappointing result for Rovers (I was sure these things were always fixed?) but a great night all the same.
The Mantis
Whitehill Welfare 5 Stoneyburn 0. Just like the good old days at Ferguson Park as a double from Lewis Walker & goals from Ty O’Neill, Lewis Collins & Jonny Devers secure the win which takes the Welfare through to the last 8 of the King Cup.

"Just like the good old days at Ferguson Park" eh? Were you taking the role of the late great Sir Peter and shouting abuse at the players then?
Andy groundhopper
Jeanfield 4 Kinnoull 3 two early clangers by the gk made it 20 , then a hectic 21/31/32/42/43 kept it going until the end. Swifts wasted several shots, flying wide and not very handsome, to have killed the game off. They look good going forward but always gave Kinnoull a.chance. Decent pie, the ground a.work in progress, nice set up. Does anyone use the athletics stadium up the road ?

Andy groundhopper
Centenary Shield at Stenny : Scotland u18 v N.Ire 02 att probs 250. Decent game, young Irish playing the better stuff and should have had more - both well taken goals, the Scots ran out of ideas 2nd half.
Andy groundhopper
Euro qualifier at St.Mirren : Scotland under 21 v Kazakhstan 4-1 att 1022. Convincing win v limited opponents, the young scots did enough for the important 3pts without having to stretch themselves. Some good football at times, quicker all round, the visitors got a late pen for their efforts.
O_Kahn
off to Belgium next month, had planned to go to Standard Liege vs Leuven, did the research on where to park, nearest train station etc On their ticketing website next to the game it says, "match à huis-clos"...turns out that they've to play this match behind closed doors due to problems in a game against Anderlecht earlier this season, FFS. Plan B might be Sporting Charleroi. Had really wanted to go to Anderlecht, but the dates don't work out.
Andy groundhopper
A stormy night at Stepford for Easterhouse 3 Saltcoats 2 att prob 50ish. With the gale with them the hosts raced into a 3 goal lead, the visitors struggling to escape their own half. A half time grilling must have done the trick as Salts got back in 31, 32, and almost grabbed a point right at the death. Fair game in the conditions, more noise coming from the Development game behind !
