  1. Nothing personal against the auld reptile but the BBC and ITV news (and wall to wall breakfast pish) were building up to her speech days in advance as if it was the next Bond movie. "Her most personal yet".
  2. Beautiful idea for a post. Have a wonderful day amigo.
  3. Need to get him capped asap. Any ideas on how he feels about playing for Scotland ?
  4. As far as I can see the reason for a strike would be a fixture list that leaves players little time for recovery and increases chance of injury. In any other line of work it would be considered reasonable to refuse to work in conditions that increased risk of injury. How much you earn shouldn't have any bearing on this.
  5. You see the flawed presumption in your query?
  6. What do you chaps reckon should be done about Nisbet? He seems to have all but chucked it since he didn't get his move after, what was it, one decent season? Is it actually just poor form and low confidence or is it a return of the entitled lazy attitude that saw him released by us at the start of his career?
  7. Klaus. I got half way through this and gave up. The animation is beautiful, it really is a gorgeous looking film, but the story is just so cynical and the main character just so unlikeable, self-absorbed and he won't ever stop talking ever that I was just exhausted by the half way point. I love iconoclasm but not when it's directed at beloved stories that have positive messages, i.e. Santa Claus. Deconstructing the myth of Santa Claus just strikes me as mean spirited and it just left a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm away to watch Santa Claus the Movie.
  8. So that's five matches against Conmebol countries in 23 years. It doesn't speak to any kind of regularity. We've played USA three times in 20 years and Canada twice. I don't care about the one or two Concacaf members as I didn't reference that at all and, hopefully they won't be included in the nations league either. My original point in response to the poster was that one of the things that makes the WC special is getting to play teams you wouldn't normally. Having Conmebol countries in the NL would increase the familiarity and would lessen the impact of a World Cup in my opinion.
  9. Currently watching the second series of the Witcher and it's very good. The plot is obviously great and it's visually much better than the earlier parts of the first series. Freya Allan is absolutely fantastic as Siri and Cavill is having a whale of a time as Geralt. It's a real pleasure following their journey on screen. Jaskier is probably the worst character in this though. Utterly pointless and creates tonal clashes every time he steps on screen. In the books his character is fun and witty, whose purpose is clear. Here it's like the writers have decided that instead of a subtle, fun character who has chemistry with Geralt, we need a spoilt man-child who needs to be led by the hand through each scene. With Siri being Geralt's companion it isn't clear what Jaskier's purpose is at all. He's narcissistic, needy and passive aggressive, and not at all funny. I know he'll fucking survive everything too, which is awful. The plot is unfolding nicely and the effects are much better than in the first series. It's got a coherent storyline and plot, compared to the first series which was largely a collection of short stories. I'm really into it, and I want to see more of the elves and their conflict with the humans. Bringing us to the home of the witchers was a very nice touch too, giving us a greater emotional tie to Geralt. Kim Bodnia as Vesemir is wonderful too, providing a gentle fatherly energy to Siri and Geralt. I'm looking forward to seeing it all develop. Without Jaskier, ideally.
  10. Tbf if he feels contact he's got every right to go down there.
  11. I read an interesting argument against this particular reading of the song The argument is that this isn't a song about a woman staying against her will. Back then it was inconceivable and unforgivable for women to want sex and to say an absolute yes to it. It made her wanton, a tramp and a slut. The song is about a woman who wants to say yes, but needs to find an excuse to stay that doesn't involve her having to confessing to wanting it. They end up singing gleefully in harmony by the end of it as they have mutually found the perfect excuse for her to stay. So this says that it's less about coercion and more about empowerment against the patriarchal society that denies a woman a right to sexual agency.
  12. Haha. He defo was not a pervert, but a celebrant of the abundant lady. You could say he was into body positivity well before it was cool. In fact, given the tyranny of female beauty standards you could even say he was a hero. He even has a fuckin adjective named after him. A curvy lady is often described as Rubenesque. Lad.
  13. We played Costa Rica and Mexico recently. Before that you have to go back a good 10 years to when we played Argentina and off the top of my head I can't recall any other friendlies against CONMEBOL opposition. It is true that we would play European teams less and to those like yourself, that would be a positive, but to me, the specialness of WC games is playing unfamiliar opposition. I don't want to be playing non-European teams to qualify for a world cup.
  14. Writing "galaxy brained horseshite" is a direct comment on the post. Its the very opposite of ad hominem. You may feel attacked, but it's not a direct attack on the author. I don't give much of a shit about any of this, but at least use Latin terms fucking correctly.
  15. Purely on the basis that I do that in fives every second game there's no way that Robbo's is any worse than a yellow. Game's gone etc.
  16. Part of the specialness of the world cup is playing teams you wouldn't normally come up against. Playing CONMEBOL teams twice a year makes that a lot less special. Familiarity breeds boredom.
  17. Congratulations lads, I'm delighted to see this. I hope you stay there as you're quite obviously the form team in the league at the moment. I'll miss the pies though so might just have to adopt you as my big team if you get promoted. Surprised nobody has yet mentioned how Gayfield won't meet the criteria as it's too windy
  18. I reckon I might be the only one here horrified at the idea of getting a dishwasher, let alone leaving stuff in it for multiple days. I fucking love washing the dishes and, as I love to cook a lot, I tend to need the pans/knives/chopping board etc back pretty soon. Tbf there is only one of me. I imagine having for those with clatty partners (see most of this thread) or weans a dishwasher must be a godsend.
  19. I reckon England's group isn't that hard. Germany were awful at the Euros and I have a feeling Italy peaked. Ach I've got Hungarian pals, so would feel mixed emotions at them getting ridden by all and sundry in that group Happy with ours. As others have said it might be a good opportunity to bring in some younger lads like Hickey and Ramsey/Ashby.
  20. Arcane. Bloody hell. Magnificent series. My only slight regret about it is that I didn't have a huge massive telly to watch it on. The artwork and soundtrack are absolutely stunning and add so much to what is already tremendous writing and intricately detailed characterisation. I love series where characters aren't either good or bad, and when the writers let you consider the relative merits of each motivation. We're clear who the protagonists are, and who the main antagonist is, but we're not always in favour of the actions of the hero, and we're invited also to have sympathy for the goals of the antagonist. It's animated, but definitely not for weans. This was absolutely fuckin brilliant.
  21. Keown is a fool and this article offers no insight or detail. It doesn't seem wholly relevant to the discussion either. Also, the last page has been a tedious back and forth between you and Meldrew that you instigated. Kindly desist.
