  1. The Tories are clever like that tbf. I canvased during the 2017 GE and all the Tory leaflets carried only messages about stopping an independence referendum. Not a single thing about their record in office or what they would do to benefit people. It's a clever distraction tactic that's been used throughout history by politicians and close up magicians alike. So aye. up here the people who vote Tory may be your brexit types, but they're more likely going to be folk who don't want Scotland to be independent. Either way it's the same point.
  2. Israel's goal in our most recent away game with them.
  3. I can think of a couple of things. One of them is that it might be something he cares about. I have no idea how much Maloney cares about Scotland tbh, but he had a decent enough international career and always put in an effort, so this may be something close to his heart (with a possible succession of SSC when he ever steps down). The other is that it's a challenge. How much of a puzzle can it be to get Belgium firing? It seems like an easy gig. People are motivated by different things, but emotional attachment and the prospect of a challenge (and it's not without prestige) can be strong motivations.
  4. I find it to be a bit too dear, but I did used to enjoy reading the graphic novels all the way through then putting them back (Dr Evil gif).
  5. Aye fair enough (aside from Jack, who hasn't been in the team since before the Euros, but I put that down to your particular bias ).
  6. Delighted for Davie McCallum getting this kind of exposure. I used to work with him in Greaves years ago. Lovely fella with a big heart and a really easy way about him. Absolute wand of a left foot when he played for the Jags too.
  7. He didn't score. He was just walking onto the pitch. The ref booked him but didn't tell him about it, so when he was booked for a second time on the pitch Rod just jogged away, not knowing he'd been booked earlier. The ref resigned later that week. Tbf to the currants, I'm not sure they were getting that het up about it (or I don't remember that being an issue at the time). Gers fans did boo Declan McDaid coming on at Ibrox for having a pretty *****ish name, so there is that. E.T.A forgot about the word filter. The word in asterisks rhymes with Haig.
  8. Thanks for this, I was looking for exactly this earlier. It really underlines how poor a commentator Crocker is, the very epitome of "sound and fury signifying nothing" as he does that "SHOUTING....RHYTHMICALLY....LIKE...THIS" but the words are just banal and cliched. McCoist's "aw come on!" at McTominay's goal is one of the sweetest sounds you'll hear. Incidentally my earlier query about co-comms becoming more like fans was after hearing McCann on BBC sounding like he was co-commentating on club TV. I was wondering if this is something producers have actively been encouraging rather than just something organic that McCoist came up with. That overhead kick against Austria was much better than I remember. What a wonderful player he is.
  9. To be clear what I'm noticing is a recent phenomenon. McCoist has enthusiasm in abundance and I love him. I don't want another co-commentator. What I'm wondering, genuinely, is if the producers have decided to do away with objective, but enthusiastic, analysis of the game and are encouraging the co-comms to let their "supporter" personas have free rein. I see that as a further step down the road of dumbing down football coverage, which I don't see as a positive. Ian Crocker is the worst of commentators. He's lazy and hackneyed, giving it the same "hope of a nation" pish or whatever that was at McTominay's goal against Israel. I always want a scottish commentator for our games and Rob McClean, Liam McLeod or any other suitable teuchter would be far far better than Crocker. E.T.A forgot to quote @Caledonian1
  10. Just watched the Sportscene highlights too. Wonderful stuff, although a wee bit more Billy Gilmour wouldn't have hurt. Are broadcasters just giving up on the co-commentators being impartial analysts now? McCann and McCoist both just behaved as I would in the commentary box, making all sorts of noises and cheering when we score. I'm being a curmudgeon, I know, but I don't particularly like that. I don't want us to have those Brazil type commentators who yell Gooooooooool!! at even the shitiest netbound sclaff. Anyway, delighted to have the analysis of that game and a chance to see the performance again. I had no idea that the Danes were without 9 players though. 4 through suspension and 5 through injury. That does check my euphoria a wee bit.
  11. I'm intrigued by this. If there are no people how did the shops get there?
  12. Definitely this, especially if you prefer black coffee (as I do). They do a fine breakfast roll too. A regular haunt for me before getting the bus up the road. In Aberdeen "cult of coffee" does great coffee and the seating is great. Craftsman and Co on Guild St is super wanky but does fine coffee also. In the capital I go for Urban Angel on Hannover St. Best breakfast in the land.
  13. This. I was saying to a pal that this is the best and most beloved Scotland team I've seen.
  14. That's some hyper macho nonsense, or at the very least a projection of your own stuff. Being wedded to your opinions is a mark of insecurity, and one that we all fall victim to now and again. It's a sign of vulnerability (and therefore strength) to go "aye I was talking shite then, I don't think that way now" and you should be allowed to move on. Digging up stuff from ages ago that was absolutely valid at the time is juvenile and wee guy behaviour and forces people to continue to identify with or defend positions they may no longer hold. What's the intention in doing this? If, say, @DA Baracus whom you quote above is jumping about his living room and basking in the glow of a great Scotland victory, he may want to come on here and share the joy and love with his fellow Scotland fans. Instead he may find himself on the back foot, having to defend himself. I'm making all of this up as I don't know the man, but you have to see how this "digging out" is designed to shame and denigrate rather than allowing someone to feel their own joy (and to share in yours) uninhibited. As I said, wee guy behaviour.
  15. How long do iplayer give it before showing the previous day's programmes? Patiently awaiting Sportscene highlights and I'm pissed off that I might have to start doing something with my day soon until they;re available.
  16. I was one of those who doubted Che's commitment and felt he might start pulling out of squads if things started going poorly. Utterly delighted to be wrong again. The boy is absolute class.
  17. The popular opinion (and mine) at the time was that Clarke's 3-5-2 formation and hoofball approach was not making the best use of the players we had. It's easy to look at past posts after the team clicks beautifully and pretend that you totally knew it was going to work out ok in the end, or that those who dared question Clarke are lesser fitba intellects than you. Starting a thread on it actually takes a bit of courage as you know there's going to be a lot of flak coming your way, and before more obtuse minds give it the "it's anonymous and they're just red circles" pish, this stuff does have an impact. We had a great night. Clarke taught a few of us a lesson in patience and faith and he has the reins now for as long as he wants them. Let's just enjoy it without the smug schoolboy stuff.
  18. In the rush to give players and Clarke a lot of credit (all due) I want to give some props to Austin McPhee. Since he's come in to specifically work on set plays we've played four games and in two of those games we've scored absolutely vital goals from well worked set plays. Our defending from corners etc looks much better too. A very shrewd appointment by Sir Steve.
  19. I was giving Clarke pelters after the Euros (especially the Croatia game) and I also didn't get the hype about McGinn. I know absolutely nothing about football. I honestly thought when Clarke took the job he's just stop us from being complete pish and get us back to the also-ran level of pish I'd been used to since 1998. The man is the Saltcoats Sacchi and I don't mind just fucking trusting everything he says from now on.
  20. Not sure why we'd worry about Poland either. Lewandowski is obviously incredible, but the rest of the team are largely average. The only teams I would worry about are Wales and perhaps Russia. Possibly Portugal.
