Human capital is a factor in the productivity of labour and is an attempt to capture the fact that people's labour inputs (hours) have different outputs (money). This tends to increase with investment (time and money, through experience and education). Where individuals have higher levels of human capital their bargaining position tends to be improved and they can yield not only a higher marginal product from their labour but also a higher share of that product. 'Increase their bargaining position' against whom, exactly? Oh that's right, those who own capital and the means of production after all. Getting a slightly larger slice of the pie from 'investing in yourself' is irrelevant when a slaphead like Jeff Bezos is earning the GDP of a small country on an annual basis but you keep kidding yourself that we've 'moved on' from the structural analysis of socialism towards neoliberal, self-help bullshit like yours. Quote You hate children and parents, we get it. No, I just hate hypocrisy as well as interest groups getting up on their cross about how hard done to they are unless they get special recognition with either money or privilege, both of which are unjustified. Come to think of it, the Venn Diagram between the 'full-time mummy' brigade and the teaching profession in this country must be getting close to being just one large circle by now.

"Neoliberal self help bullshit" is a colourful phrase but quite wide of the mark. Surely something that gives poor children a better chance than they would otherwise have is desirable whether or not it takes money off Jeff Bezos? There isn't a straightforward dichotomy between the" owners" and the "workers". There are clearly still a lot of people who are exclusively one or the other, and a lot more exclusively workers than capitalists. Small business owners and anyone with a pension or ISA own some of the means. Pretending that there is an immutable class of either does nothing to illuminate the structural nature of inequality. Apologies, i forgot you hate teachers as well.

DiegoDiego
How does a tank biathlon work? Biathlon's shooting and skiing right, so i can probably guess half of it. From what I gathered from seeing it on the news it's pretty much a tank assault course with target shooting along the way. There are probably some YouTube clips out there. Karabakh is a pretty unique situation though, I can see them wanting to boost their population as a way of consolidating control over the territory. They are encouraging immigration and resettlement as well, I think most of the Armenians who have fled the war in Syria have been resettled in Karabakh. Why were you there out of interest?Oh yeah, I totally get the reasons behind it. I've been there a couple of times, just as I was in the region on my travels and curious. I've written my trip up and without wanting to sound to cocky I think I've done a pretty good job and it's quite interesting. I'll post it up here later if anyone fancies a read.

Why don't we set our heights a wee bit higher as one of the richest countries in the world and give everyone a lift out of poverty and into a respectable living instead? It shouldn't matter a jot whether you have one child, three children or none at all. This is why giving out extra to special interest cases doesn't work because it gives those who actually make all the money from the current system the chance to point to 'equality of opportunity!!!111!!!' as the goal rather than a minimum floor for everyone in society and so allows them to keep pocketing the rest of their ill-gotten gains. With useful idiots believing that if only they or their children can 'invest in themselves' a wee bit more then too can leap up into the global plutocracy. effeffsee_the2nd
Without significant incentive ( carrot or stick) a majority of people on this planet won’t bother their arse anymore than is necessary. Most people want to get as much as they can for as little as possible. A small but significant number don’t mind working like f**k, but only if they are being well paid for it. Some people will work very hard for little reward for something they are passionate about, but usually only if their primary needs are taken care of by other means- a pension , inheritance or windfall Hardly anyone will go without so others can have - in fact our psychology won’t allow it . It doesn’t like others getting something past us , thats why it’s so easy for governments and the pressto stir up such resentment to those on welfare. It makes us feel like we are being made fools of

Because funelling money to children was achievable politically. Working with what can be done to make practical improvements for real people (aka social democracy) might well legitimise the current system to a degree. It does however have the advantage being achievable.

It does however have the advantage being achievable. All public spending apart from the most basic essentials are just bribes to the electorate. Political partys draw boxes round groups of people then apply policy’s directly to them to but votes.Low income families- benefits and tax breaksParents of teenagers- free university Farmers - subsidies Business owners- devinchy code esque tax laws to make sure you never pay any [emoji6]Rich elderly- tax relief early access to pensions Poor elderly- free personal careSpare cash - buy to let laws in your favourRenters - you have to burn the place down and not pay for a year to get evicted Unemployment black spot- keep open a woefully underused airport that the market would have closed years ago

That aside, if they somehow ended up in UEFA qualifying, I don't think anyone would be too surprised if they made it through to the finals. Bolivia would likely be CONMEBOL's other representative. More than two from South America would just be unfair. God, I've even bored myself with that.

You can, for example, argue that in America that because black or Hispanic kids tend to be from poorer areas that this contributes as much as the high rates of fatherless homes. I’m not blaming single mums either as it must be incredibly difficult to bring up kids and make ends meet. My own opinion about behaviour is that kids shouldn’t be allowed to act like arseholes and cause nuisance to others when they are at an age to know better. This is poor parenting regardless or what the home situation is. What studies? Do these studies include families with two mothers? What about single fathers? There's plenty of them.

There's plenty of them. Single parent households have more problems than households with two parents with their kids. Google it, there’s hundreds of studies from the us census to Harvard to the bbc to Wikipedia. I’ve already said that it’s not a gender issue or blaming women, it can happen for various reasons many of which is down to bad fathers and removing the child away from abuse or issues. This is an unpopular opinions thread and I realise that this is now an old fashioned and outdated opinion and single parent households aren’t stigmatised or looked down upon like they used to be. Any criticism of this setup even when stating black and white facts will be shut down by people who were raised this way or single parents. Really don’t see what’s controversial about saying a family with two income providers or a stay at home parent will be better for kids than a one parent household with one income or juggling looking after kids with work or living in poverty. Had a look at studies into crime and gang culture from black kids in America and and underlying theme is a lack of father figure types and then kids replace that gap with joining gangs. It has to be related and one of the things that needs looked at along with education. I realise that poverty doesn’t help but it’s all a circle that many find hard to escape. From my experience most of the bampot kids at school were from households with no fathers. Not saying that it’s a definite and most mums do a brilliant job on their own. When you’re getting called an arsehole for calling a single mum a f**k up who has three kids to different dads then laughs about her son being a drug dealer then what’s the point? When is it ok to ask if this is a great thing? Just turn a blind eye to everything and pretend that the facts and statistics are wrong because it’s not politically correct to suggest that people should be responsible?

For some reason I am interested in the Karabakh conflict so I would be interested to read it. I'm sure some of the famous victories the Armenians had in Karabakh involved tank battles, that might lie behind the tank biathlon.
