5 girls named Akira last year. I'm guessing the Dads had the pornstar Asa Akira in mind with thinking of names..........just a pity Akira is a boys name in Japanese!

What sort of dad would name their daughter after a porn star? What an odd suggestion.

I'd like to think no Dad would too but I'm struggling to think of where else would they get the name from given that 1. its a foreign word, and 2. its a foreign boys name?

'I'm guessing the Dads had one of the many typical and non-creepy reasons in mind with thinking of names..........just a pity Akira is a unisex name in Japanese!'

According to Wikipedia: In Scotland, it is an anglicised version of the Scottish male name Acair, meaning "anchor".

Anglicised/Loan-word names are not uncommon, especially for Japanese-English names. 1. And?  2. Incorrect.

- Perhaps the father/mother (there's a female involved too, you know) used it after searching for names on the plethora of 'name origin' websites?

- Perhaps they have a love for 'Akira', one of the most popular manga comics/films in English-speaking countries?

- Perhaps they wanted something similar, but different, to Kira?

- Perhaps they wanted to name her after an Akira that isn't of the pornography-partaking persuasion?

Of course not.

It must be those sweating, feeling like a beast, "Japanese school girl Asa Akira" porno-watching Dads.

You avoided making yourself look like a complete creep again. :eek:Don't sweat it!

Just heard a mother shouting out her son's name, "Boner".  I don't know how it's actually written but poor lad.

I imagine "Bonar" as in Bonar Bridge, which is also a  fine erection that spans the Kyle of Sutherland.

"So, have your wee pals given you a nickname yet, Bonar...?"

"f**k off, mum."

There was PM Andrew Bonar Law, a Tory p***k.
