ETA, just checked Málaga. 4 euros each way on the bus. Is that also "a ripoff"? Edited April 26 by Leith Green
doulikefish
If you really want to do it cheap you can walk up to the Hilton and pick up the Lothian bus for £2 into the city but in reality from the Airport into the city by bus or tram is quite good in all fairness,of course there is cheaper out there in various cities around the world but largely it's a lot cheaper than most

Based on the many countries I have visited, these public transport options are a fucking bargain...................................... Prague Airport, bus then metro to the city centre is 40CzK (£1.30).

welshbairn
There are lots of cheaper places, but £4.50 ain't bad for the capital of a Western country where you can't even get a pint for that.
vikingTON
The price of a pint metric gives lie to the claim that those options are necessarily cheap by local standards (see Krakow). Prague meanwhile has been constantly battling to upgrade its connections for 15 years and will be doing so for the next decade because it's not actually efficient regardless of the price. For some bizarre reason, people seem to believe that shitey wee third rate international airports like Glasgow and Edinburgh (second rate) must have some designated, taxpayer-funded hyperloop service to/from their doorstep in order to be effective and accessible. Comparing either with Singapore FFS.

Basically, Edinburgh Airport cannot cope with the amount of flights it handles. In reality the terminal building needs demolished and rebuilt.

JS_FFC
Bin the pair of them and build a massive new airport halfway between the cities with a high speed rail connection that can get you to the centre of both Glasgow and Edinburgh within 20 minutes. Scotland should be aiming for a top 3-4 airport in the UK. There would be a huge economic benefit from Scotland becoming a popular layover hub for travel between North America and Asia.

It has been thought of before, but never progressed https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/transport/13-edinburgh-transport-projects-which-never-made-it-including-princes-street-motorway-and-bulldozing-airport-4269527?page=3 https://simpleflying.com/central-scotland-airport-history/ Quote 10. Central Scotland Airport Edinburgh and Glasgow airports are only about 40 miles apart and 20 years ago there was a proposal to bulldoze them both and replace them with a single major airport for Central Scotland. Both existing airports were said to face problems in expanding to meet demand and it was argued a combined airport would offer better opportunities for hub-based operations. A similar idea had been floated as long ago as 1959. The new airport would have been built near Falkirk - it was jokingly dubbed Skinflats International - but in 2003 the UK government backed expansion of the existing airports instead. It’s already a disgrace that the fastest direct rail service between our two main cities is trekking as far North as Falkirk. There should be a direct train line following a similar route to the M8, with regular non-stopping services. This airport should be built along this railway line and also have non-stopping services to both cities. The Germans and Koreans would absolutely piss themselves laughing at our infrastructure in this country.

But what would they serve with chips then? Brown sauce, mayo, curry sauce or ketchup? You just dropped the new airport into a raging battle.
