So it’s a case of the unionist papers looking for dirt on him. Disappointing tbh.

What's the dirt?

180k is better than the SNP, it's pretty much a grand each for the members they have

This questioning is utterly deranged.

Just before his last answer, you can see him wondering if he's on some sort of hidden camera prank show, rather than in front of a Senate Committee

Rochdale by-election, to be held 29 February, is heading for an almighty farce already. Labour seat with the by-election taking place due to the death of the sitting MP, traditionally been a Labour-Lib Dem contest but the latter fell to fourth behind the Tories and Brexit in 2019.

Reform got the mad candidate ball rolling with Simon Danczuk, who was the MP for the constituency from 2010-17, representing Labour until he was suspended in 2015 for explicit messages sent to a 17 year old. He then stood as an independent in 2017 and came 5th.

With the area having a Muslim population of around 19%, there was a question of whether Labour might struggle with a backlash over their unrepentant support for Israel in Gaza and whether someone who has enough of a moral compass to oppose ethnic cleansing might benefit.

The Greens would have hoped to be that party (although winning was never realistic having never kept their deposit before) but their candidate had support from the party withdrawn and ceased to campaign after historic Islamophobic tweets emerged. George Galloway is now sticking around hoping to be the beneficiary instead, but you'd think/hope he has shown himself to be just too insane and bigoted to ever be elected anywhere again.

So things looking better for Labour then... until a recording emerges yesterday of their candidate, their local council leader Azhar Ali, going all 9/11 conspiracy theory about October 7, saying Israel knew it was coming and let it happen on purpose. Incredibly, known scourge of antisemites Keir Starmer, who has had left-wing MPs suspended from the party over such outrageous antisemitism as saying "We won't rest until we have justice, until all people, Israelis and Palestinians, between the river and the sea can live in peaceful liberty" has continued to support Ali after he apologised and Labour are not withdrawing backing.

Nothing to do with Ali being on the right of the party of course, as Starmer would never use such a serious issue as a factional weapon. Remains to be seen how much of an impact that will have on the day but it's a terrible look for them anyway.
