Superb stuff that statement

Talk a lot of sense about the size of the leagues and fans of these teams not wanting their clubs turned into a training exercise for the bigger clubs. Very good communication from them.

Don't Cowden realise that this is all about producing Scottish international talent for the future ?

I was looking forward to watching that 19 year old lad Benyu that Celtic have signed. Should be a cracking addition to the Scotland squad !

:thumsup2 Zimbabwe are all for the Colts idea.

Confirmed Good Guys

Arbroath
Albion Rovers
Dunfermline Athletic
Clyde
Queen of the South
Cowdenbeath

Happy to oblige. Who else have I missed?

Is that really the extent of the good guys? Depressingly poor show from the rest (including my own).

The Cowdenbeth response is spot on, particularly highlighting again how skewed in favour of the few the idea really is.

This is an ideal opportunity for our newly incumbent chairwoman to contribute to the debate, and give us an early indication of what sort of leader she intends to be.

Fortunately it's only the public good guys. I've no doubt there are a few who haven't gone public in their opposition...for whatever reason.

The more positive sign is that no club has publicly backed the plans yet.

I fear the game is over

Celtic supreme peter lawwell apparently fed up now controlling the spfl has given up his seat on the Board to move to the SFA professional game board who make all the major decisions inc the Colts teams.

regan and that Board will quickly become his puppets and all decisions will be for the benefit of Celtic FC.

You can add Queen's Park to the list of good guys. No public statement but been speaking to a few committee members and office staff who told me the club's official response to the SPFL "consultation" was they are against it.

The changes are to the SPFL, that won't make the slightest bit of difference.

What's the voting percentage required to knock the idea out the park?

If it was put to a vote it would fall if 2 Premiership clubs, 6 Premiership/Championship clubs, or 11 clubs from any division voted against it.

In related news... posts in the Domestic Cup sub-forum reveal the SPFL are permitting the "B" teams to field 2 over-aged players in the Challenge Cup. This was alluded to in several quarters a few months ago, but not mentioned when they announced various other alterations to the cup before the R1 draw. However it appears in the revised rulebook on the SPFL website.

Posters will recall that one of the "Pros" in the SPFL blueprint was the enhanced crowds that "B" teams might produce. Here are the attendances of this week's Irn Bru Cup - which while on one hand isn't as attractive as league games, equally wasn't being played at the same time as Premiership games, and perhaps represent a certain novelty which week-to-week games wouldn't:

389 - Dumbarton v Rangers "B"
278 - Annan v Celtic "B"
200 - Formartine v Hearts "B"

387 - Hibs "B" v Elgin
190 - Partick "B" v Stirling Uni
168 - Motherwell "B" v Queen's Park
155 - Aberdeen "B" v St Johnstone "B"
153 - Hamilton "B" v Edinburgh City
110 - Dundee "B" v Alloa
Not Declared - Kilmarnock "B" v Berwick
Not Declared - Ross County "B" v Forfar

For the sake of completeness here are last season's crowds:

496 - Stirling Albion v Hearts "B"
351 - Clyde v Partick "B"
350 - Elgin v Hearts "B"
305 - Formartine v Aberdeen "B"
299 - Queen's Park v Kilmarnock "B"
190 - Cove v Dundee "B"
119 - Cumbernauld v Hamilton "B"
114 - Albion Rovers v Hamilton "B"

1,007 - Motherwell "B" v Airdrie
493 - Rangers "B" v Stirling Uni
449 - Cowdenbeath v Celtic "B"
436 - Partick "B" v Queen's Park
402 - Motherwell "B" v Edinburgh City
350 - Ross County "B" v Brora
324 - Rangers "B" v Stenhousemuir
320 - St Johnstone "B" v Turriff
296 - Inverness "B" v Arbroath
221 - Aberdeen "B" v Forfar
216 - Celtic "B" v Annan

For context - last season Cowdenbeath (345) and Annan (387) were the only SPFL clubs to average under 400.

I went to the Rangers-Stenny game last year and totally didn't realise they were playing last night until the morning of the game when I saw an article on the Rangers website.

It's just not well advertised to get the passing fan with nothing else to do on a weekday night.

Teams were invited in but would be it be a priority at this time for say an SPL club. Highly doubtful.

Still been very quiet from the SPFL around about the Colts in the league. Have they maybe taken the hint over the fan backlash these last months? Those attendances surely have to be the final straw in completely dropping the idea... Maybe hopeful thinking.

They'll have taken a straw poll of the chairmen and, if they think it can be pushed through, they'll be planning how to announce and implement with as few fans noticing until it's "too late". If it looks like they can't push it through yet, they'll be drawing up new plans for short-term bribes to try and turn the heads of a few more boards.

There's absolutely no chance that this will be dropped altogether. Even if literally nobody showed up to any of the Irn-Bru Cup games, it would still be referred to as a "success" because that wasn't the aim to begin with. The point was to establish the precedents of "youth" teams playing in a competition for senior sides, and British clubs playing in each other's competitions. Job done.

Today on Off the Ball, Stuart Cosgrove was claiming that a deal has been put into place for Old Firm colts to be in L2 next season. They can't get promoted, will play all of their games away from home and money corresponding to 300 paying customers will be paid to teams for each game. Remarkably, each of those things makes it even more of a farce than the actual concept itself.

An absolute disgrace. Clyde will lose more than 300 fans when we're playing either of these sides.
