Good view of the old Love Street floodlights which were so low due to being so near to the airport. One for the "quirks of Scottish stadiums" thread.

They used to be at Ibrox. They were installed at Love St. when Renfrew Airport was the main airport for Glasgow and had a big horizontal deflector on top so as to prevent any confusion to pilots.

Here's a picture of one at Ibrox from a Scottish Cup game v Kilmarnock.

Saints replaced them the following season. You can see both styles in this picture vin a match v PT

Image

Those tall pylons in turn were sold to Morton when Saints left Love St.

May be an image of 7 people, people playing football and text

The Meadowbank board at the time were Blobby Hunter & pals who were doing their best to kill the club. I find it ironic they were prepared to vote against the proposals- probably thought it would cost them money.

Was part of the terracing being renovated or was this very cautious policing?

Seeing as your support had a high percentage of knucklescraping scum at the time, it was probably caution.

aka St Mirren Secterian Shite-It Day.

1) Who was St Mirren manager that day?

2) Which team did he serve with distinction during his player career?

Spoiler

1) Alex Miller

2) Rangers

That's why I've wondered about this "St Mirren Lie Down to Celtic" mythology

It shouldn't have mattered if Celtic had won by 30-0 that day, all Hearts had to do was not lose at Dens. Easy peasy.

Not sure if this is the right thread for a post like this, but here goes. We may end up in the play-offs, in which case this post is maybe a couple weeks early.

Yesterday marked the last league home game for Ayr, meaning, the last regular league game with the old North Terrace in its current look.

North side of the ground is being given a much needed redevelopment over next season and will certainly change the look of the old place. The plans are very popular with the Ayr support. Thankfully, there will still be terracing and the new stand will come with some additional seating (around 800 seats I think) along with a roof. A significant hospitality space and clubhouse is the main part of the build.

Just over a year on and the build is almost complete. 2/3rds of the terracing remains, with around 800 seats and a large hospitality area.

Has certainly changed the look of the old place, but not too much.

1961 Hearts v Dundee programme. The cover picture is from a Hearts v St Mirren game. Probably the 0-0 league draw at Tynecastle in front of 12,000 two weeks earlier. This was St Mirren’s gisth visit to Tynecastle in 1960/61 drawing 1-1 in a League Cup Sectional Tie on the opening day of the season in August (30,000) then winning 1-0 in the Cup QF in March (34,325). They met eventual cup winners Dunfermline Athletic in the SF and replay at Tynecastle on April 1 (0-0, 31,930) and April 5 (0-1, 16,741).

I think that looks tremendous.

The best thing a club has done with their ground.

Looks sensational. I would love something the same opposite the main stand at TFS.
