Sarto Mutiny
1 hour ago, The Golden God said: Ferrari surely, they’ve got the money, the history and the chance to get Hamilton his 8th. Obviously LeClerc will smoke him but this is like being offered the Real Madrid job or the Newcastle one. The fact that he went to Red Bull all those years ago suggests he's not against going to teams with new money...but Ferrari are Ferrari...

senorsoupe
If one of the reasons Newey wants to leave Red Bull is that he's unhappy with infighting, Ferrari would not exactly be the best place to go to. That being said Ferrari do have some sort of magic that attracts people to, despite spending the majority of the last 50 years being a chaotic mess of a place to work. doulikefish
I would say Aston will be where he ends up if he does leave and isn't just going through new contract negotiations and is chucking some stuff into the press to boost the offer
scottsdad
Lawrence Stroll will pay anything for him. He wants to build the F1 version of the Galacticos...and his kid.

Mr. Brightside
I'm interested to know when (or if) he can actually go and work for another team.

Yeah, I fear this might be the end of Newey in F1. By the time he does gardening leave and is allowed to put his plans into action at another team, he could be doing a million more interesting and less stressful things
Sarto Mutiny
He's heading towards 70, and is apparently not interested in going to Aston Martin, so Ferrari are the obvious destination. Having said that, could he be arsed moving to Italy at this stage of his life?
die hard doonhamer
It’s been fairly widely reported over the last few days that he’ll be able to go to another team in 2025, in time to work on their 2026 car for the new regs coming in. He was only under contract to 2026 in any case, he’s negotiated to get out a year early.

If he can put Hamilton in one of his own designed Ferrari's by 2026 then it should be a done deal
Stu
Would be lovely if Newey did what some footballers do at the end of their career and return to their first club or sign for the team they supported. Assuming he's not going to resurrect Leyton House, that would mean a return to Williams. Sadly that'll never happen - it'll be Ferrari surely. Aston Martin would be just like going to Red Bull at the start - an independent team with a rich owner chucking money about. Wherever he ends up, he's going to have plenty of time to think about his car design for the new regulations which is worrying for everyone else.

scottsdad
If Newey does go to Ferrari, it would seem like a very odd recruitment policy. Having taken a driver past his peak at the fag end of his career, doing the same with a designer? Not exactly planning for 10 years of dominance.

Are we just pretending LeClerc and potentially Bearman are useless? Mercedes brought in Schumacher who was past it and that worked out quite well.
BigBo10
1 hour ago, The Golden God said: Are we just pretending LeClerc and potentially Bearman are useless? Mercedes brought in Schumacher who was past it and that worked out quite well. The difference is Schumacher knew how to identify weaknesses in a car and work with the engineers to fix it. Hamilton routinely proves in a bad car he’s not an asset to a team. While I’m sure Ferrari would do pretty much anything to get Newey I wonder how much of the story is the British press wanting it to happen. Let’s be honest he’ll go wherever he wants as there is not a team in motorsport that wouldn’t roll out the red carpet for him.
